After landing, I threw the backup phone into an airport trash can.
My parents were already waiting outside. The moment we hugged, I finally felt I have the second life.
“Mom… Dad…“My eyes were red, my voice breaking.
Everything I’d experienced back home left me speechless.
My parents understood without words. They held me, patting my back just like I’m a child.
“Don’t worry,my baby it’s all over now, it’s all over…”
They told me that the moment my plane took off, all the explicit photos and videos had been simultaneously banned throughout the country.
Even the saved videos on people’s personal phones had mysteriously become corrupted–unrepairable and unviewable.

He spoke with a clean, gentle voice,
“She’ll be fine now. Mr. and Mrs. Devere, I should get going”
My parents walked him out.Watching his back as he left, I felt like I’d forgotten something

the institute used to talk about.

I always shook my head and smiled it off.
All my other memories were intact, except for details about my love.
I only knew I’d had a relationship with someone named Evan Keith, a person with terrible character.
Alvis reassured my parents repeatedly not to worry.
He was their best student, working in the same lab as me.And he was the doctor I saw when I woke up that day, with a minor in psychology.
We hadn’t crossed paths before because he’d gone abroad early in his career.

His clean voice pulled me from my thoughts. Alvis looked down at me with genuine concern.Ignoring the questions in my heart, I leaned over to look at the menu.
Perhaps because of our busy research schedule, I’d been spacing out frequently lately.
Whenever I drifted off during breaks from experiments, Alvis would chat with me, bringing me
back to reality.
The day I saw Evan again, I felt nothing.
Alvis and I were walking down the street, discussing psychology–a subject I’d grown interested in, and one he patiently explained to me.
