Chapter 3
His wife’s car had plunged from a bridge into the river, and they couldn’t even recover her body.
A large police force and rescue team were mobilized, but Jackson thought it wasn’t enough. In the freezing cold, he removed his suit jacket, jumped into the river, and searched for an entire day.
He continued until he collapsed from exhaustion and was pulled ashore unconscious.
When he woke up, he ripped out his IV and tried to rush back to the riverbank.
His father had security guards restrain him.
The media crowded outside.
Jackson Gray–always confident and dignified–struggled desperately before the cameras, howling in anguish like a trapped animal.
“I need to save her! She’s afraid of the dark. The water’s so cold and dark… Let me go! Let me go!”
Eventually, doctors sedated him. Reportedly, from then, his family kept him under strict supervision, and he didn’t appear in public for six months.
When he finally reappeared, his image and temperament had completely changed.
Before, he had been sunny and charming, a dashing young gentleman.
Now he was serious and distant, his eyes containing only the ashes of burned–out flames.
Everyone said he’d matured, becoming brooding and profound, even more captivating than before.
Now, Jackson was sending me a long voice message with his charming voice.
“I promise I’m not trying to scam you.”
“How did you get those things? Do you have anything else? Could you send me photos?”
To reassure me, he even directly confirmed receipt of the order, finalizing the transaction.
Chapter 3
And just like that, I watched as my account balance increased by $1.8 million.
One, ten, hundred, thousand, million–five zeros. I counted them several times, jumping up in excitement.
Tyler was putting on his shoes at the entrance when he saw my reaction and raised an eyebrow in surprise.
“Did it actually sell? Look how happy you are.”
He smiled too, his usually sharp features softening as the breeze from the window ruffled his hair.
My heart melted.
“Tyler, I’m going to be rich! Listen, we’re going to be rich!”
I ran over and threw myself into his arms.
He grunted, stumbling back against the cabinet, naturally reaching down to support my thighs.
I clung to him like a koala and kissed his chin.
“Tyler-”
“Victoria baby-”
Tyler’s voice swept over my ear as he bent to kiss my earlobe with restraint.
“I have several surgeries scheduled today. Don’t make me late, okay?”
Sensing his body’s unmistakable reaction beneath me, I jumped down, blushing.
“Fine, fine, you should go. I’ll tell you everything when you get back.”
“Good girl. I’ll be home late tonight. I’ll bring you a late dinner.”
Tyler ruffled my hair and hurried out with his bag.
