Chapter 6
Rhen
Confusest. I pick up the are from the ground and place it into the hot with the other axes. It feels heavy in my hands and when 1 lift it up, my arms tremble slightly. I’m not strong like the wolves are and carrying the box containing dozens of heavy weapons is a lot for me to handle.
I let out a heavy sigh and turn to them. They share a look with each other before signaling me to follow them. I don’t have a choice but too. I’m working at the training grounds today, I need to ensure everything is in order.
They walk me through the training yard and then into the woods. The sudden change in atmosphere makes me feel a bit uneasy, but I try not to show it. There’s a range a little further in the woods, which is behind the pack house. The range is used for training archers and warriors who fight with a variety of other weapons.
When we get to the range, they go and stand in the center. Ezra takes the box of axes from me and dumps it on the ground. He then looks up and me and speaks, “Stand over there.
“W–where
He points to a spot in the range, an empty wooden square with a bullseye painted on it. My heart stops. He wants me to stand there, but why?
“Go on, runt. Don’t waste our precious time.”
I hesitate, but I do as I’m told. My mind is racing a hundred miles per hour as I walk slowly towards the range. Something isn’t right, something isn’t right at all. They wouldn’t just bring a non–threatening and vulnerable wolf to use her as a target, would they?

I’m making assumptions here. This can’t be true. The men have to be joking. They would never do something like that. They are not unreasonable and barbaric.
At least that’s what I’d like to think.
“Now, what do you say we play a little game? Ezra has a sparkle in his eyes as he looks at me, and there’s a glint of sadistic glee. His voice sends shivers down my spine, and my mouth goes dry.
“Pick one,” Samual, the head delta, barks at me while holding up a bunch of throwing axes.
A mix of emotions swirl in my head, making it feel like it’s going to explode. Shock, confusion, fear, dread. They are all there. The only thing I can do is shake my head in disbelief. There has to be some kind of mistake.
I let out a shaky laugh, but the smile disappears as soon as it appears.
“What are you talking about?” I ask him.
“The axes,” Ezra repeats. “Don’t worry, we won’t aim it directly at you.”
Directly. There’s that emphasis again. So, they are aiming..
My mind
goes completely blank, and I have no words to say. All I can do is stare at him in shock and horror.
The head delta lets out an annoyed sigh. He then grabs one of the axes and walks straight in front of me. do, you’re going to make me miss and it’s not going to end well.”

My whole body trembles as I look at him, at the axe in his hand. I want to run away, but I’m rooted to the spot. I can’t move, I can’t even breathe, I can feel my pulse ing faster and faster, like it’s about to explode.
The head deha then rears back his arm, as if he’s about to throw the axe at me. I instinctively cover my face and shut my ers, expecting the worst.
please. My voice is weak, barely audible. Please, don’t do this” I don’t know what to do, I don’t know what I choke on my osen words, my threat constricted. Please
Don’t move.” He wants me again.
May Tean’t
Just like that I freeze back up I can’t move even if I wanted in, my muscles are frozen solid. I feel like a statue, incapable of doing anything bun past stand there
As soon as his command leaves his lips, the ase leaves his hand. I don’t dare look, but I can feel it flying towards me. My back presses against the wooden board, and my breath catches in my throat as I wait for the impact.
But it never comes.
The axe lands with a thud beside me. It’s so close that I can feel the air rush past me as it embeds itself into the wood. When I open my eyes, I find myself staring at it, just inches away from my body.
Ezra lets out an annoyed sigh, Fuck, you missed!”
“Oh come on, man. I was this close to hitting her and I didn’t. Samuel does a little laugh and shakes his head. It was a great throw. I swear”
Yeah, well do better next time, Ezra says. He then reaches into the box and pulls out another axe. “And now watch how it’s done”
“No.” I shake my head violently before parting away from the wooden bullseye. I wasn’t a target.
“Stop. I hear a growl behind me and I’m not sure who it was. “Go fucking get her. I’m not missing my shot.”
Fear clutches my chest, but I don’t look back. I run as fast as I can, my legs carrying me as far as they can, my whole body trembling.
Im almost on the edge of the clearing when Samuel tackles me to the ground. I lose my balance and fall down, hitting the ground hard. He pins me down, keeping me immobilized.
“Get off me, I scream at him. I try to push him away, but I’m no match for his strength. “Let me go.”
“Come on, runt. Don’t act like your life is any precious. The moment the words leave his lips, he grabs my arm and pulls me off the ground before forcing me back to the range.
I struggle against his grasp, but it’s no use. My arms thrash around as he pins me against the wooden board, much harder than before, almost smashing me against the target,
“Stay fucking put
“No” I scream at him, “Let me go.” My fists ball and my jaw clenches, I channel all my energy and try to elbow him.
He grunts, but his grip on me doesn’t falter. “Don’t make me fucking tie you to the fucking board, runt. He warns me.
“I think that’s a better idea. The man, Ezra, behind him speaks. “I’ll get the rope from inside.”
Before I can protest, he runs off into the direction of the storage facility, a small wooden shack in the corner of the range. Tears start streaming down my cheeks as Samuel grabs a handful of my hair and slams my face into the wooden board so I won’t move. When Ezra returns, he comes with a coil of 1
1 rope.

He goes behind me and forces my wrists to together before securing them to a small hook on the side of the target. The rough fibers cut into my skin, causing it to bleed, but they don’t stop until I am bound so tightly that I can’t move an inch.
Ezra runs the remaining rope under my wrists and then wraps it around the center of the target, securing me to it. Samuel then grabs my feet and ties them together. Etry to kick him, but it’s no use. He has me completely immobilized, all I can do is vell and scream at the top of my lungs.
“Now, let’s have some fun”
