Chapter 12
A few days go by
since the guests left, the entire packhouse is not is usual hectic schedule and hustling manner. A part of me, somewhere inside the closet of my mind, was sort of upset that Alpha Aron left, but there’s no surprise there. He is an Alpha. He has a pack to lead and a council to attend–be needed to be gone.
Now that I have brought it up–the subject of him. I should be able to sleep, maybe, just maybe. I’ve missed so many nights and sleeps due to thinking and over–thinking about him.
The man that claimed that he’s my fated mate–the man who looked into my eyes and spoke so sincerely about how much he craves to be my mate–the man I completely rejected.
Ju
sinking about him makes me feel terril
Why is that?
I twist and turn for most of the night before falling asleep. A few hours later and then I’m back at the pack house.
The weather today is awful–wet, soggy and windy. It’s uncomfortable, bordering on painful, yet somehow also kind of soothing I hate standing in rain but I don’t mind watching it.
And that’s exactly what I do
I watch it from the kitchens of the pack house.
Feels
els like a storm” Rachel breaks the quiet moment and stands next to me, watching the rainfall. “At least I am inside
I smile back at her. Yeah. One minute it’s so sunny and bright and the next thing you know, there is a downpour. The sky is so unpredictable.
It seems like everything I am feeling right now has been intensified tenfold in the way this day feels right now.
So unpredictable.
I step back from the window and go on to do what I’m supposed to do. It’s calm here now. There’s not too much to do except for what’s needed. Even Ethel has taken a day off because she felt under the weather. I drop some broth into her room before making my way toward the laundry
The house appears to be quiet. The only sounds I make are the rain splattering against the windows and the light shaking of the ceiling
Good. Let it be calm here. Nothing like last week, nothing like days ago. Nothing
Before I can even reach the laundry room. I come across Ezra again, and Samual–again. 1 quietly go pass by them, trying best not to remember what happened the last time we met. The bruse is still there on my arm. It hasn’t gone away yet and I’m not healing fast. I’m used to wounds taking some time to heal but this one is exceptionally hard to heal.
“I think someone’s avoiding us.” Ezra interrupts me before I pass by. My heart starts to pound as his voice wafts around me, lingering in the air, tempting me to stop and look back at him. But I can’t–no
I can’t

“What’s her name. Ezra‘

“Come on,” They chuckle and then I hear their footsteps nearing me. “Wait, muit.”
I stop on my tracks and straighten my back, taking a deep breath to stop my hands from shaking and trembling.
Yes I swallow hand.
They give a look at each other before Ezra speaks, “There’s something we need your help with. It’s at the range, you wouldn’t mind, would you?”
They are grinning from ear to ear and looking as predatory as ever. They don’t want help with anything. I’ve seen the cruelty of what they are capable of doing to the weak.
I know better than to accept.
Tm sorry. I am not allowed to leave the house as I’ve got quite a lot of things to do here. And the weather outside is, well, this rain. I don’t want to get caught up in it.”
Ezra snickers, crossing his arms and looks at Samuel who speaks. Trust me, no games this time. We just need help with some of the rifles because we think some of them went missing and the last time someone cleaned the range, it was you. Wasn’t it?”
I pause and think. “Yeah, but everything’s at place
“Oh, I’m not saying that they are lost but perhaps you’ll have a clue where they might have been kept.”

I stare at the both of them, considering their offer. I recall tidying the weapons rack at the back of the range, but I d anything out of order and I didn’t take anything out either. As far as I could tell, everything was exactly where it should have
been.
Maybe there’s some mistake. Or perhaps they’re just trying to trick me.
“It won’t be a long while. Samuel gives me one of those charming grins, “I promise.”
He tilts his head, smiling a little wider, waiting for me to nod in agreement. He’s being friendly right now, I guess. I wouldn’t want to worsen this already tense air with my stubborn behavior.
“Okay.
After giving my reluctant answer and just hoping that this won’t end horribly, the two guys take me to the range, in the hopes that I would be able to assist them in locating their lost weapons for whatever they needed. It was a rainy day, I doubt they would use it today.
When we get to the range, my boots are already soaked with rainwater but that’s the least of my worries right now. The rain has turned into a drizzle, a blessing, it seems, in my current situation, giving me enough time to find which rifles were missing, if any, or not.
“So, what exactly do you thinking missing? Perhaps those?” I point at a few firearms mounted on the highest wall of the range, usually out of sight.
“They are brand new, why keep them up there?” Ezra looks up at me and then Samuel, “Who keeps brand new stuff so far away from others? Why not get some for the people?”
I shrug but I don’t say anything. I step back and stay near the door while they check out the firearms and check if anything is missing. At one point I believe nothing at all is missing and they are just pulling a stunt with me.

Suddenly, Samuel speaks. “Looks like nothing’s missing anymore.”
36%.
“Well, I should go back then before the weather gets worse.” I say, reaching for the door handle and taking my chance to
leave
To my surprise, they follow me out of the range and onto the path leading back to the pack house. It’s still drizzling. I don’t mind the little bit of rain. All want to do is just go back.
“Not in a hurry, are you?” Samuel smirks. “We need to get back to the packhouse too.”
I start to pick up the pace, trying to keep as much distance between myself and them, but I can’t help but worry about what they want from me, or what reason they dragged me here for. Clearly it isn’t because of the missing rifles as none of them are missing.
There is a moment of silence before I feel my arm being grabbed.
I
I stop on my steps and turn.
“What’s the hurry?”
I need to get
back
They smirk. Something’s not right here and I can already feel my heart beating faster in anticipation. The wolves with menacing look chuckle among themselves and when Ezra speaks to my face, he has a condescending tone to his voice.
“What’s the matter, runt? Scared?”
“What do you want?” I ask him.
“We just had so much fun last time-
I didn’t
Ezra cocks a brow, “Well, we didn’t ask you. Did we?
“Yeah,” Samuel inches closer to me. “We didn’t ask you.”
They push me back against the tree behind me and I try to fight them off but they have a much stronger grip on me.
Ezra tightens his fist around the collar of my shirt, “Stop struggling. You and 1 both know you’re only going to hurt yourself if you fight back. That’s not our style.”
A blow lands squarely against my stomach, knocking the wind out of me. The impact is dull, but it knocks me off balance, forcing me back onto the ground, where my knees skid against the mud, tearing into the skin. I let out a moan of pain and struggle to breathe, pressing a hand against my stomach where he had struck me.
Someone grabs the back of my hair and yanks me up on my foot before pressing me against the tree. Something moves. around my ankles and when I look, there is a thick rope circling around me and the tree. I realize then it’s Samuel, tying me to this tree while Ezra keeps his hands and grip on my collar.
They tie me good, or rather bad, until my movement is no longer possible. I look helplessly at the both of them who wear that victorious and sinister grin.
Ezra releases me from his hold, and takes a moment to pull me straight against the tree, my legs locked and barely move. My body feels hot, pulsating.
“Lets see if the runt can shift.
They both step away
from me as I struggle against the ropes. My chest is bound to the rough bark, while my feet barely

Touch the ground.
“Please look up at them. “I can’t.”
It’s painful for me to shift, that’s if I can do it all–which I cannot sometimes.
“Come on. If you can, you’re free to leave. Otherwise you’re going to here all night and no one’s going to come and help
you
Their laughs and their intimidating stares have something for which I’m unable to not to look at them. My body trembles as my mind screams to me in fear and hopelessness.
I clench my hands, hoping for my claws to come out, for the change to happen but I can’t. The pain on my knees is growing increasingly intense and so does the tightness of the restraints.
“Come on. Show us your little wolf”
-I can’t.” I breathe heavily, the panic rises up my throat.
“Have you ever seen a runt wolf before?” Samuel asks Ezra who quickly shakes his head. “Then this is going to be interesting.”
“Please,” I can’t hide the begging or pleading tone of my voice. “Let me go. I can’t shift like this.”
The look they give each other has my breath hitching. A few more seconds of quietness pass by before they start to give up.
“Does she even have a wolf? I don’t think she’s even able.” Ezra pulls his gaze from me. “Whatever. Let’s leave her here and see if she can make it back. And if she doesn’t, then she’ll just freeze to death and there’ll be one less nuisance runt in this pack. Not that anyone would notice.”
I watch their retreating forms until their silhouettes melt into the trees behind them, leaving me alone. I call out their name, their titles, anything, hoping that they’ll turn around and see the state that I’m in, but no one comes.
