Chapter Forty Four
A week had passed, but the grief still clung to mi like a heavy shroud I thought of Mariah constantly–her laughter, her warmth, her strength. Every memory felt like a dagger twisting in my heart, and though I tried to stay strong, tears would come at the most unexpected moments.
My mates had moved into the cabin, refusing to leave my side. Though their presence was overwhelming at times, it also gave me a sense of comfort I hadn’t realized I needed. They took care of everything–cooking, cleaning, and even reminding me to eat.
That afternoon, the twins, Alex and Austin, had prepared lunch. I ha discovered during our time together that both of them were surprisingly good cooks, their banter and competitive energy making every meal an event.
“Soup again?” I teased, eyeing the steaming bowls they set on the table.
“Not just soup,” Austin declared, holding up a spoon like it was a sword. This is culinary artistry.”
Alex rolled his eyes. “It’s chicken noodle soup, Stormi. Don’t let him fool you.”
I chuckled softly, the sound startling even myself. It felt good, even just for a moment, to feel like things might be okay again.
The sound of approaching footsteps broke the calm as Eira appeared at the door. She was as poised and commanding as ever, her piercing gaze scanning the room before settling on me.
“May I come in?” Eira asked, her voice gentle yet firm.
I nodded, standing to greet her. “Of course.”
I stepped inside, her presence immediately filling the space. “Stormi, we need to talk.”
My stomach twisted. “What is it?”
Eira hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Another pack was attacked by the umbrakins.”
The air in the room grew heavy, the levity from lunch disappearing in an instant.
“They attacked again?” Elijah asked, his voice low and tense.
“Yes,” Eira confirmed. “And this time, it wasn’t during the full moon. It seems their attacks are becoming more predictable.”

do?”
Eira’s gaze softened as she looked at me. “It’s time for you to find the Moon Keystone.”
I stared at her. “I… I don’t even know where to begin. I don’t know how to find it.” Could it be the riddle?
“I have having dreams for as long as I can remember, a riddle. Could it have something to do with all of this?“,
Eira’s lips curved into a small smile. “Yes, we can begin there“.
I furrowed my brow, trying to recall the words. After a moment, I began to recite:

By the moonlit lake, reflections guide,
Symbols hidden in ripples, where secrets abide.
Guardians of the night, statues stand tall,
Midnight echoes in the pack’s sacred hall.
Within the ancient forest, the howls reveal,
A path to follow, a destiny to unseal.
At the mountaintop ruins where stars align,
Celestial convergence, a gateway to find.
Decipher these riddles, a cosmic quest,
To the Moonlit Nexus, where the Keystone rests.“**
“We heard it too,” Alex said, his voice quiet. “During the Lunar Redemption Day.”
Stormi looked at him, startled. “You did?”
Elijah nodded. “We were even talking about it the other day”
Eira stepped closer, her expression serious. “You have to find it before the Children of the Eclipse do.”
My eyes narrowed. “Who are they?”
Eira sighed, her gaze distant as if recalling something long buried. “Even after the banishment of the Shadow Weaver, a dark and fanatical cult of witches persisted in their devotion to the malevolent entity. They call themselves the Children of the Eclipse. These witches believe the Shadow Weaver is a god of darkness and chaos, and they seek to resurrect it.”
Austin frowned. “I thought the Shadow Weaver was banished. How could they bring it back?”
Eira’s jaw tightened. “The Shadow Weaver’s influence is stronger than we ever imagined. Even in banishment, its power seeps into this world, corrupting those who are drawn to it. The Children of the Eclipse believe the Moon Keystone is the key to its resurrection.”
My stomach churned as I thought back to the sinister figure I had encountered in the woods–the shadowy entity with red eyes that had laughed as it devoured Mariah in my nightmare.
