“Marcella,” I call for her as soon as I enter the dining room the next day. “Is she-”
“Still asleep.” Her voice comes to me before I turn to the corner.
“Still?”
“I checked on her a few hours ago, when I first woke
up.”

I linger near the seats while glancing down at the food has arranged, “Are you sure?” I ask her, raising my head.
“I’ll check on her again,” she says, moving back and forth near the table. “Do you want me to bring her down?”
“If she’s awake, yes. I’d like to see her.” I confirm before sitting down in one of the seats.
Marcella gives me a look, which appears half unsettling and somewhat perplexed. “You don’t even like to see me this early in the morning. Are you certain I should be going up and bringing her down?”
I lean back against the seat, trying to suppress a sigh. Marcella has begun to catch onto the subtle differences. And the subtle differences are no less than conspicuous at the moment. I have carried the girl with me all the way here, into my territory. . Everyone knows it.
“It’s different.”
“Mhm,” she replies, her tone dripping with amusement.
I
cross my arms over my chest and watch as she finishes up the plating. “I wouldn’t even want to see you all day, let alone at this time.” A smile tugs on my lips when she gives me that stare.
“Lucky for you that you’re powerful enough to say that without worrying that I might slip something into your dinner tonight,” she mutters with a teasing tone.
“You’re getting some strange ideas, now.”
She finished setting the table before walking over to me, placing a hand on the table and another on her hip. “Well, you know, that girl did make me think. Poisoning an alpha isn’t exactly impossible now, is it?”
I raise an eyebrow, “I see you’ve been taking notes.”
“My ears are everywhere and nowhere at the same time,” She pats my shoulder before going toward the door. “I’ll go get her for you.”
“Only if she’s awake.”
As she exits, I shake my head with a chuckle. It’s clear that Marcella has been spending a lot of time with Kovas, and that’s where the dark humor comes from. Their conversations must be quite the entertainment.
I sit back and wait for her to return. It’s a few minutes later, a couple before I sense Rhea making her Marcella following her.
way
downstairs,
“Marcella, will you be joining us?” I ask her as she guides Rhea to one of the seats next to me.
“And feed your appetite so I can end up more fat than a cow? No, thank you. I’ll have my meal later,” she replies with a wry

smile while making sure Rhea is comfortable. “The two of you enjoy. I’ll be in the kitchen if you need anything more
She smiles at her before proceeding to leave the room without glancing at me again.
自
I lean closer to Rhea, who I haven’t seen for a while now. It’s almost as if my eyes are yearning to lay on her again. My entire attention settles on her as I take in her presence.
“Did you sleep well?”
She nods but doesn’t look at me.
“Good,” I say, trying to bridge the silence. “Have something to eat.” I wave my hand over the space between us to encourage
her.
She glances at the food before drawing in a shaky breath and reaching to grab a small berry from the bunch to eat. I watch her, noticing everything. The tremble in her hand. The lack of hunger in her eyes. Something’s wrong. I’m not sure what
“What’s wrong?”
My question makes her raise her head, and suddenly, her eyes turn gray, like slate, and her face pales.
“Nothing. I’m not feeling too hungry.”
“Are you
sick?”
She shakes her head, “No, I’m fine. Just not hungry.”
It’s fine, but there’s something else here–something that’s not right with her. I can’t tell what it is. I just can’t. I take in a deep breath and sigh, turning back to look at the door where Marcella left. Perhaps she’d be able to convince her to eat a little more, unlike me.
But Marcella’s not going to return from that kitchen anytime soon. We both know that. And then, she’ll be even more stubborn if I go in there and ask her. So, I wouldn’t.
“Eat a little.” My eyes rest on Rhea again.
She nods faintly and picks up another berry, this time with less hesitation.
I don’t want to assume here, but it appears that my note might have had an affect on her. She appears remorseful. About what she had done and said to me. And perhaps my response has added more guilt to it. Or maybe not, maybe she has already accepted things for how it is.
That thought alone makes my wolf a little angry. A tad more than just a little. It’s pushing me to remind her who she belongs to, who she still is. Still mine.
I take a slow and steady breath. Calm it down. Tame it down. As time passes, I will reclaim her and her wolf for myself. 1 will.
That is certain.
“If you don’t feel like it, don’t. You can always eat a bit later.” I tell her before shifting my gaze on her.
“Yes. I—I just want to lie down for a while.” She finally says to me.
“Again?”
She doesn’t look at me. Only nods. I hate that; I hate it when she does that. There’s a mouth for a reason. To speak. And she needs to speak and not nod.

With a faint annoyance, I sigh, “Go on then. Rest. And whenever you’re hungry, tell Marcella.”
“Okay.”

She quickly gets up from her seat, like she wanted to for so long. I watch her walk away, and then I turn my attention away from her. Something inside me rumbles, wanting to stop her and make her sit down again, make her stay in front of me. But I don’t let myself get the control and instead keep looking away.
I’m not that controlling, am I? Well, not with her, no.
For a moment, I’m in my own thoughts until a distant sound pulls my attention again. I raise my head and look to the side. The dining room’s flooring is dark wood, so if anything falls on it, it echoes, especially with the silence in this house.
It takes me a second to catch what’s on the floor. Blood. Drops of blood scattered in a trail, starting from the seat where Rhea had been.
Below, there’s a puddle of blood. Bright, thick. Wet. My heart skips a beat, and then the realization sets in.
“Marcella!” I call sharply before pushing my chair back abruptly.
My mind races with worry.
Worry for her.
