It doesn’t really get any better. No. It doesn’t. But I’m getting used to the fact that my wolf is dead, that she’s not with me. She’s gone. But she’ll always be there in my memory. My heart will forever miss her.
Things have changed within me now. I can’t hear the same way as I’ve before, my senses aren’t sharp, my smell is gone and I can’t even run as fast as I did. I’m human, I guess. But I don’t want to believe it.
Aron’s different. Really different. He’s been kinder to me. I don’t know if it’s because of the outburst I had last week, but he’s been kind and patient. Really different. Sometimes, when I look at him, I don’t see the same man I did when we were at the pack house, when he killed Elias with his bare hands. Almost like it was two different people living in his skin.
I wonder what he’d do to Ezra if he found him.
Ezra’s still out there somewhere. Alive and running. I want him caught and Aron’s promised me that he will be caught soon, and when that day comes, he’ll pay the price for what he did. I do believe when he says that, that Ezra will be found somewhere.
There’s not a lot of places where a wolf like him can hide.
The BlackFang Pack had fallen that night itself. The people surrendered quick. It’s under the rule of the BloodClaw Pack. It took Aron no time to get his people settled there and order everything into shape.
I have not contacted anyone from there, not my parents or my brother, or anyone at all. It feels like I’m too much in my own world to bother with anything or anyone. But that’s not it. I’m still mourning for her.

I know I need to move on. I know I have to. But I’m not ready yet.
It’s late in the evening when I’m sitting with Marcella in the living room, she’s telling me stories of her own. Of when she was little and the mischief she used to get into. I listen to them, for the most part until I see Kovas walk in from outside. He passes by the hall without seeing either of us, but then he turns around.
He stops in the doorway and gives Marcella a wave.
“Won’t be long.” He smiles and leaves again, going upstairs.
I purse my lips and watch him till he’s gone, and then I suddenly shift on the couch, preparing to leave as well.
“Don’t, Rhea,” Marcella warns me.
“I want to know-”
“It’s not healthy to eavesdrop,” she reminds me.
“Yeah, and it’s not healthy to keep things from me either,” I raise my eyebrows. “And besides, I want to know what they are talking about.” With that, I get up, and she shakes her head.
“He’s going to catch you, and you’re going to be in trouble.”
“I’m willing to take the risk.”

And I leave to go to his office and I hear Marcella’s groan as I walk out of the living room. I remain slow as I head up the stairs, waiting for Kovas to completely be out of sight first. He’s surely going into his office, I already know that because I’ve done this multiple times now.
The last time I learned what exactly happened between Aron and Elias, the exchange. He gave Elias a land, which he managed to retrieve back right after his death. It wasn’t coincidental. It was one of the reasons why Aron killed Elias.
When Kovas disappears inside the office, I rush up the stairs and walk to the office. The door’s shut, but I’m close enough to listen in. I place my hand against the door and my ear onto it. I’ve to glue onto it to hear anything. My senses aren’t sharp anymore, it’s harder for me to focus.
“Marco’s on his trail. We’ll know the location soon,” Kovas‘ voice is the first thing that I hear. And I’m glad that I’m still able to make out the words. It’s only when you lose something that you truly understand the value of it.
Ezra. They’re talking about him.”
“Good,” It’s Aron. “Where was his last location?”
“Heading north.”
“Here?”
“A little more towards west. Near the Greshire territory. I’ve asked for them to keep a look out for a rogue that matches his description and inform us if they find him earlier than Marco.” He continues. “We should find him in a few days, at most. Marco’s good.”
“He’s the best. What the about men you sent to the land? Did they return yet?” Aron’s question.
“No, they will be here in the morning. But they did send a report of what they have found,” he continues. This isn’t something I really understand even when I try to. “Elias was right. There’s a lot there that’s going on. The report is detailed if you want to have a look at it. There’s something there of your interest.”
There’s a shuffling inside the room. I hear that for a while and then some silence.
“I asked them to get it. But you should first take a look at this. You might want to decide after you’ve taken a look.”
More shuffling. This is getting a little hard to listen in on. I don’t have any idea of what’s happening.
“Wait-”
After that, there’s stretched silence. I furrow my brows and try to listen in a little more, but there’s nothing. No talking, no shuffling, just nothing. What are they doing inside if not talking?
Suddenly, the door opens. My heart drops at the bottom of my stomach and I quickly step back as the golden light from inside the office falls onto my face.
Aron steps out before closing the door.
“What are you doing here?” he asks me.
I shrug, “Nothing.”
“You shouldn’t really listen in on conversations you’re not meant to hear.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t be having those conversations behind my back,” I tell him.
He’s standing in front of me, and he’s blocking out most of the light coming through the doorway, his shadow falling over me. I tip my head back, and look into his eyes.

There’s a flicker of a smirk on his face before he sighs, “They aren’t relevant to you.”
“They’re about Ezra and I want to know, too.”
He steps forward and I step back at the same time. If anything, becoming human has completely erased all the boundaries that I had. It feels like I’ve forgotten all my manners–and morals considering I don’t really have a family, or a pack, or a wolf.
“Don’t let me catch you here again.”
“I’ll be still here.” I bite back.
His jaw ticks at that, and I feel his hand come to my chin. He lifts my face up to his, and he leans closer to me. I don’t back away. No.
“You’re getting little stubborn, you know that?” His voice is a low hum, his thumb moving to my lower lip, and then dragging it down slowly. “I’m going to teach you a lesson for it one day.”
“After you tell me where Ezra is.”
“Maybe today itself,” He muses before he’s even further into my space. I’m suddenly against the wall. My breath comes out a little harsh as he caged me against it. “Go to your room and perhaps, I’ll find you later and tell you.”
“And if you don’t, then?”
He doesn’t answers that. He simply smiles before pulling open the door and going back into the office. I stay outside for a few seconds, but not longer than that. The threats are enough to send me back into my room.
