Rhea
Catch up to speed, Rhea. You’re going too slow. Pick up your pace and follow the trail to the end of the woods, Lydia’s orde echoes through my mind as we’re on the final run through the trail of the woods and toward the clearing on the outskirts.
The wind hits my face, and the sound of dirt crunches underneath my paws.
‘Almost there!
There are four more female wolves alongside me. We are all in our training, with me being the least experienced one. It has only been over a week since Aron let me begin training, and I don’t know much yet, but Lydia and everyone else have been really patient with me and very encouraging.
It’s almost over, finally, I huff under my breath.
We stop near the end of the trail, and my paws sink deep into the dirt before we come to a complete stop.
There we go. See, that wasn’t hard, was it? Lydia questions while circling the whole lot of us. ‘Now, we just have to head back and we’re done for the day. As soon as we’re about to make a turn and move the opposite way from the clearing, something catches Lydia’s attention. Her senses are sharper than ours; that’s why she notices it before anyone else does.
Lydia freezes on the spot. Her nose catches a certain smell in the air. It’s coming from near the edge of the woods.
My gaze goes there, trying to figure out what’s got Lydia so bothered all of a sudden. A smell hits me next.
Wolf. A foreign wolf.
Aron told me the training grounds were close to the borders of the pack, and while there were other wolves guarding it, sometimes, if a wolf was quick and smart enough, they’d be able to cross a short distance into our land without getting detected right away.
There’s no need to worry. It’s just a lone wolf, Lydia tells us. ‘Stay put. Don’t move and make a sound. She then makes her way to where the smell’s the strongest. I try to follow her with my vision, but I lose track when she’s a good distance into the woods.
My muscles tense up. My senses are on high alert. It is probably not a big issue, seeing how calm everyone is about this, but there’s a feeling in the back of my mind, one that says there is something not right about the entire thing
Lydia disappears into thin air. The four of us remain here, waiting and watching the trees for her.
Then I hear Lydia’s call from inside the woods. Everyone get back and run as fast as possible back to the cabins.
My heart begins racing
Now
She doesn’t have to say it again, and in an instant, we’re all running back from where we came from.
We hear shouting in our minds.
Lydia’s shouting. Screaming
Suddenly, there’s a loud howl that rips through the air. We all halt and look back at the trees, waiting for Lydia to return, Buc it’s not her that appears through the thicket; instead, it is the foreign wolf from earlier. He comes charring

All of a sudden
We don’t have much time to process what is going on before we all have to flee from him. It is five against him, but he’s too much for us to handle, being a fully grown male. It doesn’t matter.
The male wolf follows after us, chasing us back to the training grounds with no intention of letting us get away so easily. He bites down on one of us, pulling her down by the back of her leg and ripping into the flesh. A sharp cry tears through the woods and then a scream.
We don’t stop this time. We keep going, and when the cabins come into view, someone shouts, and then it is like the entire pack is out and heading straight toward the male.
The next thing I know is that there are wolves surrounding us, and a large circle is being made, closing in on the lone wolf. There are too many of them; he doesn’t have any choice of escape now. They’re here, pinning him to the ground before I know it
The wolves are howling and growling at him after they manage to catch him. His claws scratch at the ground, his teeth showing. trying his best to free himself, but it is too late.
He can’t anymore.
Aron comes. I sense him before he’s even here.
He looks down at me with concern in his eyes before he takes me back into one of the cabins. I shift and grab onto the first clothes I can find.
“What happened?” Aron’s hands run over the sides of my arms.
That wolf, it came out of nowhere.
“Are you okay?
I try to breathe, but it’s hard. “Yes, but Lydia and one of the girls. I think he attacked them-

head. “Not me. Not to me. I didn’t, I wasn’t-
With that, he leaves the cabin and heads back outside. I remain inside, trying to catch my breath and steady my heartbeat.
After several more minutes pass by, I move toward the exit, only to fi with the exception of Aron, who’s not there. He’s gone.
“Where did he go?” I question Kovas, who’s standing in the midst of it.

you get hurt?”
“No
“Come on then, I’ll take you back to the manor
“No, I’ll wait for Aron
“I’ll be a while,” Kovas steps away from the lone wolf that’s still there, on the ground, surrounded by wolves. “And you don’t want to see what will happen to him, he states. His voice is serious, much deeper, his tone darker than usual,
The pack wolves don’t let the lone wolf even move an inch. They hold him there tightly against the dirt

will let the lone wolf go now. His fate is sealed.
My eyes go back to Kovas, and I shake my head, “No, I’ll wait.”
“Rhea-
“Hex angry,” I cut him off in a low whisper. “What if he goes there again?“
It takes a moment for Kovas to realize what I’m talking about and another moment before he gives me a faint nod. He sighs, rubbing a hand on his temple.
He looks back at the lone wolf again and then at me.
Fuck
Yes”
“Okay. Stay here then
Kovas moves back to the crowd and begins clearing them out, Most of them listen and leave the area, but some still remain there. The warriors that were sent into the woods return with an injured female wolf, the one who was running with us, but there’s no sign of Lydia.
Not vel
The female wolf gets taken straight to the infirmary.
And after that. I can feel the tension rising. The air begins to feel tighter.
1 pace back and forth, waiting for Aron to return. When he does, it doesn’t feel better, not even by a little bit.
Something has shifted.
And I’m not too sure what. Aron doesn’t say a word to me before heading straight to the lone wolf, who’s still surrounded by other wolves. The warriors in his way make way for him to move.
Then he shifts, right in front of the male, and begins to move closer to him. I sense it; I feel it deep in my chest, in my bones. It’s Kael.
Not Aron
Karl.
The growl that leaves his throat makes me tremble; it’s dark, terrifying, and more vicious than anything I’ve heard. It is a wolf that kills the lone wolf without any mercy or hesitation. But when he shifts back, who is it going to be?
