Chapter 107

I know I should be getting ready, preparing for the evening that’s approaching so quickly, but I can’t get what Aron’s mother told me out of my mind. She’s in my thoughts, at the very front. And now I’m inside Aron’s office, going through drawers, looking for something, for anything. I don’t even know what it is myself.
There are a few documents spread out all over the table, and they are all just important letters, accounts, and statements, and such. Nothing of what I want.
Nothing.
I try another drawer, and that has a bunch of files all together. All I can make of it are a bunch of words. They are words that don’t mean much to me.
In the lowest drawer, I find a stack of letters, one over the other, neatly placed. I take one letter out and shouldn’t, but I still do. I give it a quick read, and it’s–well, it’s addressed to me.

Similar to the letters he had sent me back in my family’s home.
But this one never made it to me. And there’s only one reason for it, and that’s because these letters he wrote, he didn’t really intend to send. It was when he was being pulled between two minds–himself and Kael.
This is written by Kael.
Clearly.
When fate has a plan, it surely does, and there’s no one that can stop it. You’re fated to me. Accept it and embrace it, or I’ll make things worse, much worse than they already are because sometimes, I can change fate. I’m capable of that, and I will do everything in my power to keep you mine. You are mine!
I fold the paper and slip it back inside the drawer before reaching for another one, one that isn’t addressed to me or written for me. This one’s more like a journal or a diary–a letter that isn’t meant to be sent.
It’s to Kael.
And I can’t stop reading once I start.
‘They can laugh all they want. Once they know what I’m capable of, there’s no one that can stop me. The bloodshed that will happen will be the worst in history. My power is unmatched, and my strength is greater. I’m born for this-
The door at the end of the room opens, and I quickly stop reading. My eyes upon hearing someone walk in.

Shit,
I slowly place the letter back into the drawer before rising from the floor. To my surprise, it’s not Aron who stands at the end of the doorway.
“Aren’t you supposed to be downstairs?” Kovas asks me, walking inside the office.
“I” My gaze hovers over the papers before I move away from the table. “Yeah, I was going to go down.”
“Aron’s waiting for you.”
“I know.”

He grabs a file from the desk among the other likes, and then he straightens up. “What is it?”
“Nothing.”
“Tell me,” he presses.
“His mother, she came to me and said a few things and
“And now you’re questioning everything?” he guesses,
I nod my head and let out a sigh. “Yes, exactly that
“What did she tell you?”
“That Aron and I are not right together. And that he needs more than I can offer him. I know I shouldn’t let her get to me, but she does make some sense. Sometimes,” I admit with a shrug. “And it made me curious as to why his mother and sister don’t live here with him. Wouldn’t their presence make Kael a little easier to control?”
Kovas chuckles at that, “No, it would only make it worse.”
“You have known Aron for a long time. Was he always like—that? Or did it happen later on, when he became an alpha?”
I know I’m supposed to be in my room, changing out of the clothes I’m wearing and getting downstairs to join Aron and the high–ranking wolves that have arrived at the manor, but I’m unable to stop myself. It’s just a few thoughts, nothing more. “It’s complicated, Kovas shakes his head. “After Aron’s father, Emilio, passed, it was a difficult time, and Aron didn’t have anyone. There were packs attacking us and the territory from every side, and there was no one that could take responsibility for the pack then. Aron was fifteen, entering sixteen, and he was too young to take charge. Everyone said so. But he did, and the things that happened during that time, the violence, the anger, the rage–everything surfaced Kael within him. And he’s never been the same since then. He explains to me, leaning against the table.
“So, it wasn’t always there?” I question. I want to be certain.
“No. Not at all. Before his father died, I had never heard of Kael or anything like that.”
That is the reason why his mother and his sister aren’t aware of his other side. They weren’t here to witness it.
“I see, I mutter, glancing down at the floor. “Thank you for explaining it to me. How are you doing now?”
“Better. A lot better,” he replies. “Cassandra really helped me out.”
“The witch?”
He nods.
It’s been a few days since then. He has healed from the injuries Kael gave him.
“What did she ask for in return? I mean, there’s no way a witch would do anything unless it was worth something.”
Kovas doesn’t say anything to me at all. Instead, his expression is enough for me to understand what it is.
“You should go get ready and be downstairs before Aron comes looking for you.”
I take a step back from the table and take that as a sign to leave the office before Aron actually comes looking for me. He wouldn’t be happy if he saw me here, snooping yet again.
After changing, I head down the stairs and into the hall where the party has already begun. The guests have arrived along with a few high–ranking members of the pack. The official announcement is going to be in a few weeks, this was just the crowning. But there were still people here–those with important titles in the pack.

And I was going to be one of them.
“Rhea,” Aron catches my hand before I can take another step and pulls me to him. There’s a smile on his lips as he looks me over. “You look beautiful. I cannot wait for you to have the title you deserve.”
I smile back at him, my cheeks heating up a little. “Thank you for this and everything.”
“You don’t have to thank me for anything, Rhea.” His hand comes around my waist. “You are meant to have this.”
Right.
I’m fated to be here, to be his mate and to stand beside him. It’s not something anyone can change. Not even me. “Oh, there’s someone from the council here for the ceremony tonight. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have invited them, but it’s necessary, especially when such titles are given,” Aron informs me, and then he turns to the right and I follow his gaze.

There is a man standing there. One I’ve seen before, but I don’t recall his name. He was with Selina and the other man when they came here before regarding the Blackfang pack situation, which is all sorted now.
“Congratulations, Rhea, on your upcoming position in the Blackfang pack,” he says with a smile, looking directly at me before sticking his hand forward. “You must be quite excited for tonight.”
“I am.” I force a smile on my face before taking his hand and shaking it.
The minute I do so, I feel a strange tingle in my hands and then in my body. I’m instantly repelled by it and I jerk back, releasing his hand from my grip. Aron’s hand falls flat on my back and I glance at him. I didn’t know what that feeling was or what that was.
But it didn’t feel nice.
Though, no one has seemed to notice that. No one at
all.
