Chapter 112
Chapter 112
Aron
A..
There are six of them–or more; I can’t really tell.
A scream comes from downstairs, a blood–curdling scream, and I’m instantly running toward the direction of the noise.
My body moves on instinct.
Hunt. Kill. Survive.
I hear the struggle before I see it.
One of my cousins from my mother’s side–he’s on the floor, his head ripped apart by someone’s fangs. There’s blood everywhere, and the smell of death and violence is heavy in the air.
Another cousin of mine is in a fight, his claws extended and fangs flashing as he tries to get away from the attacker that has entered the home. Two more black wolves enter from the front door that’s wide open, and they don’t wait before coming a
- me.
My stomach turns to ice.
Traitors.
Killers.
They are from the pack, from my father’s pack. They are father’s wolves, but they are trying to attack me.
My hands curl into fists. My claws itch beneath my skin. My breath is slow, even when fear has gripped my heart.
I had been warned about this. Everyone had been warning me about this.
I shift before they manage to make it to me and make a run toward them.
I’m the Alpha. I have the power of the pack in me. This is my territory, and no one will take it away from me. No one.
The first wolf doesn’t even have time to react. One second, he’s smirking, and the next, my claws are in his throat. I rip sideways, tearing through flesh and bone.
Blood splatters across my face; it’s hot and thick. He makes a wet, choking sound before stumbling back and collapsing on the tiles of the manor.
The second wolf moves behind me, snarling at me, angry that I’ve killed his friend. He lunges at me, and I sidestep, but not fast enough. His claws graze my shoulder, and I bite back the cry of pain.
I spin to face him and then lunge. He’s bigger than me and more experienced.
My wolf–it’s weak still. Young.
But I don’t care about that. It doesn’t matter. Not when I’m angry, enraged, ready to kill anyone who’s dared to come in my
home and attack me.
He growls before charging at me again. He thinks I’m weak. Thinks I’m still just a boy playing king, as everyone here has
told me so.
But I’m not.

Chapter 112
I go under him, twisting, raking my claws across his stomach as he moves over me. A loud howl escapes his throat as blood spills once more.
I’ve never killed anyone before, but tonight, I have, and I don’t think this is all.
My wolf takes control, surfacing to the forefront and taking over my instincts. We’ve got no choice but to kill, or we’re not going to make it out alive.
Not from this.
He heads out of the manor and into the courtyard, where the other wolves–traitors–are. He finds them, and he kills them All of them. One of them tries to submit, tries to surrender, but the anger inside me doesn’t let that happen.
They’ve got to die.
All the traitors have to die.
When the last one is lying on the ground, bleeding to death, I shift back and stand on my feet. There are dead bodies all around me, blood everywhere.
They’re all here to take the position from you. The position that’s rightfully yours. A voice speaks within me. I know who it is.
Kael–my wolf.
You are an Alpha. The only one. You have the power of this pack, the BloodClaw pack, the most powerful pack in the Northern territory. You can’t let them steal it from you!
And I won’t. Not ever.
The council will come and take your father’s pack from your very hands if they see you unfit and unable to keep it. You can’t let that happen!
I know.
You have to kill all those that would dare to do such a thing. Kill anyone who would take your pack from you. Anyone that would threaten your family, your home, your pack
I will. I swear to it.
‘Good. Good. I know you will: Kael speaks, his voice a little soft before it hardens again. ‘And if you can’t, you can let me out. Let me help you, Aron. Let me protect you. I’ve always protected you, and I’ll always protect you!
“Aron!” Kovas screams as he rushes out of the house. He’s shirtless, and his pants are half done. He looks around, and I see the fear on his face. It’s real; it’s terror. “What–what happened? Where are the guards? Are you fine?”
I look back at the gates that have been compromised and the guards that have already fled.
You can’t really trust anyone here.
“They were traitors,” I tell Kovas. “The guards let them in. They killed my cousin. They were here to kill me.” My voice is steady, calm, but inside, I’m shaking with rage.
“Fuck, Kovas curses, his hands going through his hair, his chest heaving as he stares at the bodies. “Fuck.”
“Hang the bodies. Let the pack see what happens when you betray your own,” I tell Kovas.
“But are you okay? You’re bleeding, Aron.”

Chapter 112
“It’s nothing. I’ll be fine.”
I’ll be.
A
The next morning, after everything that happened, I get a call. It’s a council member. They’re coming to meet me. They want to talk to me about the murders, my father’s death, and the pack. They don’t want to meet me alone; they want to me me with an elder.
They don’t think I can handle this. They don’t think I can lead. They want an elder present so they can control me. They don’t want to talk.
“Someone from the council will be arriving,” I tell Kovas, the only one I trust right now.
“Here?”
“Yes,” I glance outside again, from the window. The sun is up in the sky, and yet I haven’t gotten an ounce of sleep except for that short rest I took right here. “They think I need them, need their approval, their guidance, and their elders.”
“Well, they aren’t wrong,” Kovas crosses his arms over his chest. “At least for now, you do. It would be difficult to run a pack on your own.”
I shake my head. “I’m not a child. I can take care of myself.”
“There’ll be more attacks,” he warns me.
“Then I’ll need strength.”
I look him dead in the eye, and he looks right back at me.
“And where do you think you’ll get that?”
It wasn’t too long ago that Kovas and I were on a trip out of town. It was just last year. My father sent us along with our Beta to visit another territory, and there, Kovas found something that no one else did.
“You’re kidding me?” he asks, his face filled with surprise.
“I need power that no one can take away from me.”
Silence.
That trip. The place we went. The thing Kovas found. I know I need it more than anything else.
My wolf agrees with me. We need it.
“That is dark magic, Aron. I know I’m still in school and I’m still learning, but I don’t know if that is the way to go about it,” he tells me.
I tilt my head slightly. “Then tell me, what other way is there? My mother has fled the pack along with my sister. One of my family members lies dead downstairs. The council wants to control me, and there’s probably a line of traitors outside these gates, waiting to kill me. What other option do we have?”
Kovas sighs and shakes his head. “It’s a mistake.
“One I’ll be willing to pay for…” I tell him. “Whatever price it may be.”
