Chapter Hundred and Six

The night was eerily silent as we approached the base of the mountain range. A thick mist had settled over the terrain, shrouding the rocky slopes in a ghostly haze. I tightened her jacket around myself, the cool air biting at my skin

We shouldn’t be here,Alex muttered, his arms crossed. I have a really bad feeling about this.”

Austin rolled his eyes. You always have a bad feeling about things.”

And I’m usually right,Alex shot back

I sighed. Then do us a favor and keep your paranoia to yourself. Just light up the place.”

Alex smirked, holding up his hand. A small flame flickered to life on his fingertips, casting long shadows along the rocky walls of the cave entrance

Fine,he grumbled. But don’t blame me when something jumps out and kills us.”

Isaiah used his shadow abilities to cloak us, ensuring that no unwanted eyes saw their entry into the cavern. The moment they stepped inside, the air thickened with an unnatural stillness

The entrance tunnel sloped downward, leading us into the heart of the cave. Light filtered through cracks in the ceiling, creating eerie beams that illuminated jagged stalactites above us

But what was most unsettling were the echoes

Our footsteps bounced off the walls, repeating themselves a second too late, mimicking our voices in a way that sounded almostdistorted

I shivered. It felt like something was watching us

As we ventured deeper, the manmade pathways of the tourist tour faded behind us. We were in uncharted territory now

Then, I stopped

On the walls, faded paintings decorated the stone. Ancient stories, forgotten by time. I reached out, tracing the outlines with my fingertips

What is this?Elijah asked, stepping closer

My heart pounded. It’s a storythe story of the first omega.”

The paintings depicted a lone wolf bathed in silver light, kneeling before a radiant figurethe goddess. She blessed the wolf, and from that moment on, a new bloodline was born

The birth of the Silvermoon lineage,Isaiah murmured, his voice hushed in reverence

I swallowed hard. This was proofevidence that my kind had been chosen by the goddess. And yet, for centuries, omegas had been treated as weak, and disposable. But from the line of omega was born a powerful lineage one that even the strongest wolves would have no choice but to rely on

I clenched my fists. We pressed forward, the tunnel leading us into a vast cavern

Then, Alex froze. His entire body stiffened, his breath catching in his throat

Elijah groaned. For the love ofAlex, get moving.”

But Alex wasn’t listening. He was staring at something. I followed h gaze and my blood ran cold

At the center of the cavern stood a figure

A man? A ghost? Something else? His body flickered like a mirage, sifting between solid and translucent. His golden eyes, locked

onto us

Visitors, the spirit whispered, his voice slithering through the cave like a breeze. It has beenso very long.”

I swallowed. Whowho are you?”

The spirit tilted his head. I am a guardian. A watcher of this place. His eyes lingered on me. It has been long since I have seen a Silver Wolf.”

A shadow of a smile crossed his face. The last one I met was quite. insufferable. But he was my friend.”

My breath caught. Who was he talking about

Before I could ask, the spirit’s voice hardened. You wish to pass? Then prove your worth.”

A chill ran through me

Elijah sighed. Let me guess. A riddle.”

The spirit chuckled. Ah, you catch on quickly.”

Elijah groaned. I am so tired of riddles.”

The spirit floated closer, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “And I am tired of children who lack patience. He stopped in front of Elijah and peered deep into his eyes.

The cavern’s air grew thick with silence as the ancient spirit’s gaze flickered between them, his translucent form hovering slightly above the ground

For a long moment, no one spoke

Chapter Hundred and Six

Then the spirit smiled. And he spoke the riddle. His voice, deep and echoing, sent a shiver down Stormi’s spine

I have a heart that does not beat, A face but no eyes to see, I speak without a mouth, What am I?”

We exchanged uncertain glances

Elijah groaned. Of course. Another stupid riddle.”

Austin muttered, Couldn’t he just ask us to fight a monster instead

Alex tapped his chin. Okay, let’s think. A heart that doesn’t beat? A face with no eyes? That’screepy.”

Isaiah ran a hand through his hair. It speaks without a mouth, so maybe something that makes noise?”

I narrowed my eyes at the spirit, who watched us with amusement, waiting. And my hand brushed against my pocket

My mind raced through possibilities. Something with a face but no eyes. A heart but no pulse. Then my hand brushed against my pocket again

Then it hit me

A smartphone.”

The spirit tilted his head

The others turned to me, confused

Stormi stepped forward, her voice more confident now. A phone has a home screen, a facewithout eyes. It has a processor, a heartthat keeps it running but doesn’t beat. It speaks through a speaker but doesn’t have a mouth.”

Silence

Wrong answer! Turn away now or die here, it said the cave became extremely cold

It’s a riddle the answer can be anything , I said taking my cell phone from my pocket

Don’t make things up! What is this thing you speak of, this cellphone, the spirit asked

This is a cellphone,I said and Isaiah called me from his and spoke, his voice being heard from mine. The spirit moved eloser looking at my phone intently

The spirit smiled. In all my years, I have heard many answersan old clock, a portrait, even a radio. But never this.He hummed, stroking his chin

I narrowed her eyes. When was the last time you left this place?”

The spirit’s smile faltered. Excuse me?”

The world has changed. Maybe your answer was correct centuries ago. But now?I shrugged. Maybe the answer has changed too.”

For a long moment, the spirit simply stared

Then, to our shock, he laughed

Oh, you amuse me, Silver Wolf. His eyes twinkled. Yes, the world changes, and so too must wisdom. Yes, child. Your answer is correct. Very well. You may pass.”

Elijah smirked. Guess even ghosts need to update their riddles.”

The guardian let out a booming laugh. Perhaps I do.He waved a hand, and the cavern trembled as a hidden pathway revealed

itself before us

I exhaled in relief. Well, that was stressful.”

Alex nudged me. Not bad, genius. Who knew all that time on our phones would actually come in handy?”

I rolled my eyes, if there was anyone who liked spending time on their phone it was him

The spirit then led us deeper into the mountain, where another cavern awaited. At its center, a wooden box sat atop an altar

I stepped forward, heart pounding. I lifted the lid

Inside, wrapped in aged cloth like the one we found in the groove of the Whispering willows, I carefully unwrapped it. Inside it was a stone fragment, It was almost identical to the one we found in the Whispering Willows

I took out the first piece and pressed them together

A faint glow pulsed from where the edges met

They fit,I whispered

The spirit, who had been watching, smiled

My task is done,he said softly. The tablet has waited long enough Now, there are only two pieces left.”

He stepped back, his form flickering

I frowned. Where are you going?”

He smirked. To see the world so I can learn more about your socalled cellphone. And with that, he vanished

The cave fell silent. For a long moment, no one spoke

Then Alex exhaled. That wasweird.”

I clutch the stone. Two more pieces

The journey wasn’t over yet

But we were getting one step closer each time
