The biting wind whipped at my face as Aron dragged me away from the Council Headquarters and their territory, away from what was meant to keep me safe. The trees loomed over us as we went further into the forest. I tried to stay strong. hoping that at one point, someone would come, someone would find me and save me from whatever was about to come.
But nothing.
And Aron’s grip on my arm remained tight.
“Can’t you even walk straight?” he snarls.
I glare back at him, “Maybe if you weren’t dragging ine like an animal-”
“Oh, you think you should get any better treatment?” He stops and pulls me to him in a force that makes my feet move even if I don’t want to. “You betrayed me, you told them everything. I’ve been more than kind, considering. I should’ve done worse.”
“Worse?” I scoff. “What have you done to me is worse than this?”
He grabs the collar of my jacket and I stumble into him, falling against him. His lips hover right at my ears, “You think I don’t know that you were with that bastard?”
“What are you talking about?” My heart thunders against my chest, and my blood turns cold.
He moves his head, his eyes staring down into me, “Cade? You think I don’t know that he was there, at the temple, with the others? That he wasn’t the one to help you? To get you out? To betray me like this?” His words are a whisper but each word hits harder, stronger than the last.
“How did you-”
“Doesn’t matter how I got the information, but all I know is that you’re mine and he dared touch you.” He pushes me back and turns around, pulling me with him again.
I’m silent. Not because I’m shocked or surprised that he found out. It’s because I don’t want Cade to be hurt, to be punished, to be harmed because of what he’s done to help me.
“You have no right to be jealous.” I spit out.
“Jealous?” he sneers. “You think this is just jealousy?” he stops and turns around to me and pulls me to him once more. “You’re not his.”
I look him dead in the eye and say the words that have always been on my tongue.
“He’s my mate.” I state, and his pupils grow, his body freezes. “He is my true mate, not you. I was never meant to be with you and you know that very well.”
His grip on my arm grows tighter, painful. I bite down my tongue and look back at him.
“Do you think it matters?” he growls, low and dangerous, “Do you think being with another male, being his fucking mate matters? Because you can’t be. You’ll never be. I will never let you go, never allow you to be with him, never allow you to even utter his name again.” He hisses, and I see his anger.
My eyes burn as I stare at him.
“You will never touch him, never see him and if I ever catch a

sight of you both together, then you should hope he is dead

before I get there because if I do, then it’s not going to be pretty.”
*Don’t–”
His hand comes up, gripping my jaw, hard, forcing my head to tilt. “You’re not going anywhere. Never. I’ll have to chain you to me, keep you close because it doesn’t matter what happens, you’re mine and mine alone?
I shut my mouth, refusing to give him any more power over me than he already has. He relents and releases me. Inside, my wolf howls with rage far worse than I can comprehend.
We continue to walk until the trees, mostly getting dragged by him. The leaves crunch underneath my boots and the sound of it is loud enough in my ears to distract me for a while.
Suddenly, a twig snaps nearby.
Aron freezes and turns around, sensing something that takes me a while to sense. His senses have always been sharper than mine, but I don’t miss it.
We are not alone.
His body stiffens and then relaxes. He lets go of me, and that’s enough to signal me to turn around and see who it is.
Wolves–council wolves.
Not the councilmen but their warriors.
There are four of them and they step out from the shadows and come to stand a few feet away. They look at Aron and then
- me.
They don’t even question it before their bodies tense and they are ready to attack. At the same time, in an instant, they begin to lunge forward to attack.
Aron reacts instantly. A growl rips from his throat. He doesn’t even bother to shift fully, but his canines lengthen into lethal fangs and his claws extend.
The first warrior reaches him, lunging with teeth bared, aiming for Aron’s throat. But Aron is faster. With a swift, brutal movement, he sidesteps the attack and grabs the warrior by the neck. There’s a sickening crunch, a sound that makes my stomach churn, and the warrior’s body goes limp, his eyes rolling back in his head. Aron drops the lifeless form to the ground with a thud.
The other three warriors attack simultaneously, two going for Aron while the third veers towards me. Fear shoots through me. I’m caught off guard, still human, completely vulnerable.
The third warrior, who had been momentarily stunned by Aron’s speed, lunges again but gets his throat ripped apart by a slash of Aron’s claws.
The last one, he’s frozen, his eyes wide with terror. Then, with a sudden burst of speed, he turns and flees, disappearing into the trees before I can even blink.
He’s going back to the council…
Aron turns to me, and he knows what’s about to happen.
“Shift.” he commands me with a low growl, the look in his eyes dark.
“What?” I’m confused.
“You heard me, shift, and follow me. I don’t have the time to wait for the rest of them to return and try their best to take you away. So we move. Now.” His eyes flash, and he steps closer to me.

I can delay this for long enough.
“Shift, Rhea. Don’t make me force you” He orders me once more.

My wolf stirs and she knows he can force her if he wanted to. He can make her shift, make her submit and she’s been trying so hard not to do so. But if she’s forced to shift then it’s a whole another game.
“I can’t. I’m tired, I won’t be fast- It’s an excuse, but I don’t think it’s going to work.
“You either shift now or you’ll face the consequences.” he grabs my face and holds my chin with his thumb and finger. “You won’t like it.”
I look at him and bite the inside of my cheek. The look in his eyes tells me that he is not bluffing. He can force me. I’m still part of his pack and by some sick, twisted way, he’s my Alpha.
“Rhea.” his voice lowers, his tone threatening, his words clipped.
I look away and shut my eyes for a moment before taking a step back.
*Fine.”
Then I strip.
