The air inside the cabin is suffocating and the longer I stay, the worse it keeps getting. I stare out of the window, looking left and right in such hurry that somehow the bars against the glass might just open and I might have the chance to escape. But of course, there’s none.
“Stop pacing, Rhea. It’s making me agitated.” Aron states, looking at me as I keep going from the left side of the room to the right side. Back and forth.
“I don’t want to go with you.”
“Again with the complaints? Haven’t I made myself clear enough to you? You’re not leaving. You’re not going anywhere.”
I stop pacing and look at him. He’s leaning against the door so casually as if nothing has happened while my mind runs a hundred miles an hour.
“What more do you want from me?” I question, looking up at him, trying to understand his logic.
“You.” He says.
I shake my head.
“You’ve already taken everything that I had, that I have. Or are you going to leech off of what’s remaining of me so you can fucking take the last of what’s left in the north?” I ask, anger and hatred rising inside my chest. “Is it worth that much to you that you have to destroy the rest of the wolves and their families? Is your thirst for power that strong?”
Aron looks down at the floor for a moment before glancing at me.
“I’ve done nothing wrong to them.”
“Really?” I raise my voice, “You killed families-
“Only men in who have threatened me. He cuts me and takes a step inside. “You know that well.”
“No, no,” I shake my head as anger boils inside me, “You cannot fool me again. You set off a chain of events that lead you to somehow kill off those Alphas so you could get what you want.”
“Is that what you told the council?” he mocks.
“I told them enough to know you’re a monster. I told them enough so they can see that you’ve never been good and never will be.”
His hand comes wrapping around my arm and he pulls me closer to him, our faces are only a few centimeters apart. I can smell his scent. Feel the warmth.
“As if the council cares for anything more than themselves,” he scoffs, and his eyes darken. “I saved you, Rhea. Saved you from getting killed by your Alpha, I killed all those who wanted to hurt you and yet you still act as if I’m a monster.”
“That’s because you are.” I snap, pulling my arm away from him and stepping back.
“Right. Perhaps I should’ve left you to die that day.” He looks down at me with a cold gaze. “Would’ve made you more grateful,” he adds.
I take another step back and glare at him.
“I wish you did.”

That’s when I catch a flicker of emotion, of hurt that flashes in his eyes, before he covers it up,
“You don’t.”

“I do.” I state, not leaving him a chance to say otherwise. “If I knew this would’ve happened, I would’ve gladly accepted it than to live in misery and agony I can’t escape from.”
“This is misery?” He cocks a brow, a mocking one. “I gave you everything that you ever wanted. And I continue too. The only time I took was when I needed it the most, and even then, I honoured you more.”
“Honored me? You stripped me of my will, my choices, my very identity! You turned me into a weakling. Don’t you dare try to twist reality and paint yourself as some kind of protector when there’s a body of me lying in your fucking house for years!”
There’s something that changes on his face when I mention that, mention to him what he has done.
More than just a few days have passed by. He knows that I know it all, that I’ve been told, informed.
“It isn’t like that, Rhea.” He says quietly and I scoff in return.
“You don’t have the right to tell me that.”
“You can be angry, hate me, lash out all you want. I know what I did. And I know how it must look to you. But you’ve to know it was never done with malice.”
“No. But it was done with a selfishness that I can never forget or forgive. I will never understand you.”
He steps closer and looks down at me.
“You don’t have to understand why, Rhea. You just have to accept what is.”
“And what is that?” I cross my arms. “That you’re going to keep me with you as some prisoner for the remainder of your life so you can keep killing wolves? So your strength cannot defer?”
“I haven’t needed you after the ritual. Not again. It was once and done, I had the power that I needed, and I didn’t need more. All that happened after that was because I chose to do it. Because I wanted you, in every way possible.”
I bite the inside of my lip and shake my head.
I don’t believe it.
‘I can’t believe it.
He has lied to me once, and there is nothing stopping him from doing it again.
“Why are we here? Why won’t you let me leave?” I ask, and he looks at me, searching for something, something I don’t know. “If it wasn’t about that then what is it that you need from me? Why can’t I go back to my parents? Or the Council?”
He remains silent for a long time, the only sound that can be heard is our breathing and the slight sound of my own heartbeat that echoes inside my chest.
Then, he speaks.
“You’ll never be safe if I let you leave.” he pauses. “Not with the council nor your parents.”
“Far safer than I’m with you.” I reply.
“Is that so? Do you think they will not try to take advantage of the fact that I am completely vulnerable without you?”

I blink, and my brows knit in confusion.
He sighs, heavily, the weight of something is heavy in his eyes as he stares back at me, before it’s replaced with a cold look, the one he has when he is angry, the one he has when he is furious.
“You think I would be this reckless and not think of the consequence of what will happen if you left, or when I took you back from the council?” he says and I feel the coldness seep in through me, in through my heart, my veins, my blood.
“You know what I’m capable of, Rhea.” his words are a threat. “And I know the Council knows that as well. They might seem to be kind to you, might even treat you with a respect, but do not think that they care about you, they do not care about what you’re going through. All they want is a weapon against me.”
“No, they want to make peace-”
“They want to get rid of me, to use you. That is all.” he steps forward, taking my face in between his hands, and he forces me to look up. His face is so close that his warm breath fans over my face. “They do not care, nor do they want to care. But I’ve always cared for you. Always. Since before I had met you.” he strokes his thumb on the side of my neck. “And I know you feel it. I know you do, Rhea. That you still feel the pull.”
