“There’s a problem.”
My mind reels when I hear that. I remove my claws from the bloodied wolf before me and step over him. He’s already dead. Another council warrior thinking that can try to overpower me while knowing it very well that what I possess is far more superior than anyone.
I raise my head and look over at the battlefield just right outside of the town borders. The sky is dark, and there’s a little rain washing all the blood that has been spilled.
It has only been an hour. Maybe a little more than that when these wolves arrived and demanded that I submit to them and their council.
Do they not know that an Alpha doesn’t submit?
I move over the barely wet grass and across the clearing where I find Kovas in his wolf form. Eyes golden and fur almost black approaching me.
“She’s gone.” he tells me the moment his eyes land on me.
“What do you mean?”
“I made contact with Marcella and she told that she find her anywhere in the house. It has only been a few minutes. She did see her before.” He speaks through the mind link we share.
A low growl bleeds out of my throat, and I look away from him. It’s almost torturing how I’ve to keep Rhea away from fleeing over and over again. Has she not understood?
“Can you hold ground here?” I ask Kovas, wanting to be sure before I leave and hunt for her within the town.
She cannot get that far in such little time. This time, I intend to stop her.
“Yes. I’ve the warriors and even some more prepared to fight if it worsens.”
“Good,” I reply before turning around. “I won’t take long. Ensure no one from the council even lives to see the day again.” “Will do.”
My claws sink into the dirty soil as I run across the battlefield, the sounds and noise all muffled by the loud thumping of my heart, and my anger rising to a point that makes it feel like there’s fire in my veins. And all the while, the only thing that comes in front of my mind is her face.
Fucking hell.
Perhaps another form of discipline will be required.
I push through and across the forest, I head toward the manor. It’s a long run away, but I do it anyway.
Maybe I can find some trace, some scent or something else.
I try my best to remain calm, to remain neutral but the fact that she managed to escape again makes me wonder if someone else had gotten into this town. Someone like the man who was meant to be her mate. I haven’t seen him arrive here, I haven’t heard of him–which makes me only think that he’s already inside.
My shoulders tense and I’m running even faster, almost as if I could tear the forest apart. There’s no way she could be with anyone else. I have to find her, I have to stop him, if he dares to touch her-
My wolf growls at the mere thought. And I let him take over. The forest flies past me, and I find myself nearing the manor. The moment I’m there, I can sense her. Her smell, it’s still in the air. She hasn’t gone far.
I stop on my steps and look around until I reach her mind.
“Do you think I can’t find you?” I say when I get into her head. “I will always. But you can run, because I like to chase you down.” I state. It is the only warning that she will be getting before she feels me again on her tail.
I head into the direction where I know well that she had headed. It’s past the garden, into the forest and toward the lake that comes far ahead.
It’s almost like that I can predict what’s in her head.

I race through the trees and branches. I don’t have to go very far before the trees part, and I reach the clearing. I can sense that she is close, that she’s just by the bank.

“There, there. What’s the point now?” I say, moving closer to her.
I look at her. She stops and her shoulders tense.
“I’m not running.”
“No?” I circle around her little wolf. She’s not even trying to escape, which makes me think that she just might not be
running.
“No.”
“Shift.”
I tell her to and she does exactly that without any kind of protest. The rain is slowly increasing as she falls onto the ground bare and with only the dark hair spilling around her shoulders. Her head raises and she looks at me, eyes wide and searching.
Some things inside me rattles with the need to pounce on her right then. It’s only a little while since I have touched her. She stays on the ground and looks at me. I don’t think she has realized what effect this sight has on me.
I shift to my human form and walk closer. “Why are you out here? Where are you going, hm?” I tower over her as she manages to stand up.
“I’m not running.”
“I heard that the first time,” I step closer and she begins taking the same steps back. “What were you planning on do…y?” “Nothing. I just wanted to go for a run.”
“Of all these nights, why this night?”
“I needed it.”
I remain quiet for a moment, just watching her and then her eyes stray away. She’s hiding something from, but I can’t tell. Though, one thing I’m sure off is that no one has been around her. Because I can smell anyone on her scent. Her precious mate didn’t come. He’s not here.
“What are you going to do?” she breathes. “Punish me for even leaving?”
“I asked you not to, didn’t I?”
“I didn’t run.”
“This isn’t far from it.”
“I’m still here, aren’t I?” She cocks a brow defiantly. Something’s different. She’s snappy, and her voice isn’t quivering. Her eyes don’t show that same amount of fear as they used to.
I move forward. Her feet move back until her back is pressed against a tree and I have her trapped.
“Yes, but what is it that I don’t know?” I say quietly, my eyes searching her face. “You’re hiding something from me and I don’t plan on going anywhere until I find out what it is.”
Her chest rises and falls faster than normal under my stare and my fingers tighten on the tree behind her. I’m so close, that I can feel the heat of her skin, that I can smell her, that I can have a little taste of her if I want.
But not now. I’m here just to find her and take her back.
