It’s been a while since I’ve heard anyone outside of the door again. A couple of hours in, footsteps echo within the tower, followed by the keys turning and the door being opened.
I straighten to my feet.
“Cade,” I say his name as his face appears.
The man, the warden, leaves him and steps out of the room. There’s no need for security here when I’m behind a locked cell. It’s not like I’m going to go at his throat. Perhaps I would’ve, at one point, before everything that has happened. Now, I just don’t feel the need for violence.
“What do you want?” He instantly asks.
I look over at him. The man who put me here, the sole reason that I’m here and without a wolf.
Though there’s something different about him, something that makes me question what really happened after Rhea left, and I ended up here.
“Do you not know what’s happening?”
“What?”
“Rhea, where is she?” I ask him.
He cocks a brow at my question, “Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you.” he responds with a snarl. “Is this all you asked me to come here for?”
“No,” I say, “She’s in danger-
“She’s away from you. She’s not in any kind of danger,” he shakes his head.
“Something is wrong with her,” I tell him, “I know what I’m feeling.”
“And I’m supposed to believe that?” he comes closer to the barred door, his face inches away from it. “So I can tell you where she is? Where has she been so you can get out of here and terrorise her again?”
His words snap something within me, and the control I was keeping a moment ago begins to break away.
Before he can say another word, I slam into the bars with enough force to rattle the hinges and reach through the narrow gap. My hand fists the front of his shirt, yanking him close enough to choke.
His fingers claw at my hands, trying to rip them off his clothes, but even his strength is no match for mine. With or without a wolf, I’m still the same man I’ve been all my life. And the rage is just beginning to boil inside of me.
“Don’t fuck with me again. If I wanted to escape, I could’ve, I would’ve. Do you really think your fucking council can hold me here? If I’m here, it’s because I want to be.” I tighten the grip of my fist, and he grunts. “Now, tell me where she is or so
fucking help me God I will tear you apart limb by limb.”
His hands curl around the bar, and he struggles.
“I don’t know where it is!” He yells back.
My eyes narrow down on him.
“And I wouldn’t know. The last knowledge I have of her is that she was going back home, to her family.” His words begin to come in pants as he’s out of breath.
“So go to the Blackfang territory and find her then.” I release him from my hold. He stumbles back, catching himself on the table behind, before his gaze flicks over to me.
“I’m not-”
“You will, or I’ll get out of here myself and do it.” My voice turns lower.
“You’re insane.”
“I can feel her pain,” I grit through my teeth. “I know she’s hurt. And so would you unless, of course, she rejected your pathetic attempts to have her.” That makes his face turn into a glare.
I almost smile at that thought, especially after his expression confirms it. “Oh, did she?” I cock my head at him, my hands gripping the bars. “That must be a shame. Not Imeurised Ormaybe! am a little.”
Successfully unlocked!
“Shut up.” His voice comes out in a low growl.
“Go find her or I will.”
“How do I know that you’re not lying? Why would you even feel anything, considering you forced the mate bond?”
“You can believe whatever you want. But she’s in danger, and unless you want m

I’d suggest you start heading to the Blackfang territory.” My knuckles turn white.
He straightens slowly, adjusting himself before taking a few steps back. I can see the clear hesitation in his eyes before he looks away from me, “You won’t ever leave from here,” he states.
“Good. Go find her, then.” I repeat myself once more.
He doesn’t say anything else before reaching for the handle and running out of here. His steps are quiet, the door opens and closes again, and he’s gone. It’s only the warden who comes back to the door to check up on me before he leaves, too. The silence returns.
I sit back down on the edge of the bed and just wait, thinking.
Rhea is hurt. Someone or something is hurting her, and the only one who could possibly do something about it is Cade. If she’s in the Blackfang territory, it isn’t too far from here, and he can get to her or find her.
And I know enough that Cade is just a good enough person to actually try to help someone else, even when it is me who’s asking.
If I have to get out of this place, I’ll do it, but not right now. Right now, I have to wait.
I have to be patient.
I don’t even question how I can still feel her in my very bones. It’s all I feel right now. Fear, worry, and the pain that keeps getting worse by the minute. And when I close my eyes, she’s there again.
Somewhere dark and somewhere completely alone and helpless.
And when she opens her eyes, I can hear the scream that leaves her lips. The agony and the pain and everything that comes along with it.
It’s far from what I hoped for her.
