CHAPTER 149: She Was Mine

ARON

It’s too late…

I can feel it in my bones before the thought even forms. It slams into me like a fucking truck and it’s so absolute that I’m sure that if I wasn’t within these walls, I’d already be tearing through the pack territories in the south

One second, I’m breathing. And the nextshe’s gone. Nothing. I feel nothing but the absence of her. Like she just vanished out of thin air. I’m frozen

My hands tighten on the bars

It’s impossible for me to feel this way. There’s no bond between us. It was ripped apart, shattered by the witch. There’s absolutely no reason that I should know this. And yet, it’s there, the truth. It’s in the air. I can feel it. I can fucking sense it. Even if she’s so far away from me

She’s fucking dead

And something inside me snaps. Not with grief. Not with heartbreak. With rage. I can feel it building inside, taking its own space in my body, filling it with anger and violence and all the things I once knew and relished in

But this time, the feeling is different. There’s something more to it, a kind of possessive rage that’s clawing its way up from my bones and pushing me to move, to act

And before I know what’s happening, my hands are already gripping the bars and the metal is twisting under my hold, groaning. The bars begin to twist and snap under the force, bending outwards until I’m able to slip through. It’s easy enough. And the moment I step out of the cell, there’s nothing stopping me from moving

The door at the end of the hall is unlocked and opens easily

I make it down the stairs and all the way to the grounds, where the first guard that finds me tries to grab my shoulder

I snap his wrist

He howls with pain and goes down, and two others come up from behind, weapons drawn

I wouldn’t try it,I growl. I’ve got nothing left to lose, and the rage boiling in me is telling me that they’re the fucking reason. Unless you want me to tear this place apart.”

The men exchange glances among themselves before withdrawing their weapons

I’m leaving, and if anyone tries to stop me, it’s going to end with their bodies in pieces. My hands curl. I glance around the place at all the men who are looking at me

Go get the head,” one says, and another guard disappears

I stay right there. My mind is running wild, trying to think of something, to do something. But it’s only focused on one thing, on the fact that Rhea is dead

I don’t have to think of anything before I see someone coming down from the stairs of the tower. The same man comes and he stands before me, clearly threatened by my actions

Aron, this is a breach-”

I step forward, I’m leaving, and if you ever want to see my face again here, I’d suggest you tell your guards to back down.”

I see the conflict in his eyes. The way his mind is running, trying to come to some kind of decision. He thinks I won’t kill them all. I could

I could right now

The man then nods and steps to the side. I move without any delay and walk across the ground, away from the prison

No one comes after me

No one says anything

My chest is heaving as I make my way over the hills, through the trees, and to the mountains. The sun is just coming up, and the cold air bites into my skin. It’s fucking cold, and all I can think of is her, the feeling of nothing

It’s too late to even think about what could have happened to her

I keep moving

South

Blackfang territory

She’s there, I’ve seen it and I know it. There’s nowhere else where she can be. I need to make it to her. I should’ve done this earlier rather than sending that piece of shit to her rescue

CHAPTER 149. She Was Mine

My pace increases with every thought, with every emotion that surges inside me

The distance to Blackfang is not that great. I’ve already crossed the territory lines. It will be another hour or so before I’m able to get to their lands

I keep moving

Even without a wolf, I’m fast enough

And when the sun rises above, I’m running, and there’s no more waiting, no more patience. It’s all gone out of me, and I don‘

t even know how long I’ve been moving, how many minutes I’ve been going, how much distance I’ve covered until I finally make it

The Blackfang territory is just like I remember it

The town, the packhouse, and then the lands around..

Everything is the same

The packhouse

I get to that filth hole where she once worked. Where everything started, and where I first met her. There’s always a part of me that’s going to remember that

But when I reach outside, it’s already surrounded by a bunch of men, women, and wolves

The fear that lingers around the place makes me sick. There’s no doubt of what’s in there, of what I’m going to find inside

I’m going to find her. But I’m not going to be seeing my mate. It’s not her. It’s her body

Her lifeless, cold, dead body

And I snap again

At Cade, who is standing inside, within the room where she is lying dead

I told you to fucking help her,I’m on him within a second, my fingers curl around his collar and I’m yanking him close, my face just inches from his, I told you. You had one fucking job.”

Get your hands off me!He tries to pull back

I don’t let him

My fist collides with his face, hard enough to send him to the floor, to make him bleed

I’m not holding back

Hey, hey-Other wolves try to grab me, but they’re not strong enough

My body moves on its own, and the anger, the fury, is all that is driving me

You did this.”

My head spirals, and everything inside me twists. I turn to look at her, at her body. She’s on the table, and she’s covered in blood, her blood. Someone hurt her, someone dared to touch her. She was hurt. She suffered. She died

She’s dead

She’s dead
