CHAPTER 150: What Remains Of Her

“It was too late when I came. She was already gone, and no one could find her until the scent of her blood was caught.” His words sound far, too far.
I turn to him and the other people surrounded. There aren’t many as most are outside.
“Who did it?”
Cade wipes his lips. “It’s being looked into.”
“It’s not a fucking answer and I want a name.”
“I don’t know. We don’t know what happened or who was involved-
I step toward him, ready to knock him out again. “This is all because of you and your council and your fucking laws.” My hands tighten into fists again, the fury and the anger is too much for me to handle. “She was perfectly fine, and now, she’s dead because you just had to take her away from me.”
His face twists and hardens, “She was miserable with you.”
“Well at least she was fucking alive!” I snap.
My chest rises and drops as my breaths come and go. There’s a part of me that knows what I’m doing right now isn’t going to make even the slightest of the difference. It won’t bring her back.
It won’t.
But it’s not like I have anything else to lose. I can’t. I don’t. She was mine.
My mate. She belonged to me, not to this world.
She was mine.
“I’m going to tear whoever is responsible for this into pieces. I’ll kill them.” My voice goes quiet. “And you and your council will fucking pay for this.”
“Aron, you’ve escaped prison. I’ve already informed them about Rhea. The Council will come for you. For her and-”
My eyes narrow at him.
“You, or anyone, will not touch her, let alone take her,” I say to him.
“They will want an investigation-”
that’ll happen when I’m fucking dead,” My voice comes out cold. “She’s not going anywhere.”
There’s only enough he can say, enough he can do as an alone councilman here. There’s no one else that’ll fight for him, even in this territory. But if I know better, the council is already approaching with their warriors and their men, probably prepared and notified about my escape and her death.
“Get
I say to him, and then I look around. “Everyone.” My voice rises.
Cade considers it for a moment and then he leaves, along with everyone else.
I turn away from the door and look at her again. I take the steps closer and closer until I’m standing before her.
My hands shake.
She was supposed to be fine. She was supposed to be safe, and she was meant to be happy.
My hand runs over her cold face. The wounds, the scars on her body, the way she’s soaked in her own blood.
I don’t understand.
How could someone do this to her? Why did someone want to hurt her? To harm her?
My fingers touch the scar on her chest. Too deep, too large for her to heal herself. I trace over it.
She was suffering. And I felt it every moment since yesterday. It wasn’t something I imagined, something I just felt. It was her, in every inch of me.
I reach down and press a kiss on her forehead.
It’s not how I imagined kissing her. She wanted to let go and I did let go of her. If I only knew, I would’ve held onto her.

Her body is cold to my touch. But there’s no time to waste, no time to spare. What needs to be done has to be done at the

right moment and at the right time.
But no one can know about it. Especially the council. They cannot, and there’s no way to hide unless I can give them something better again so they’ll let her go, let her fade where she needs to.
I trace my fingers over her face once more before stepping out of the room.
Cade’s already waiting.
He’s standing stiff, jaw clenched, arms crossed like he’s waiting for me to lose control again. He’s most likely waiting for the warriors to come and inject me with something even stronger so I can be sent back to the prison, and Rhea can be taken for their investigations.
No.
No one gets to claim her now.
She’s mine, even in death.
Cade opens his mouth, probably to tell me my time’s up. But I don’t let him speak.
“I’ll go back.”
His brow lifts, surprised, “You’ll surrender?”
“I said I’ll go back,” I repeat. “But she’s going back to my territory.”
“You don’t have one, and that’s not your call to make.”
“Oh, but it is mine. She was mine. And she’ll go back to where she belongs. I’ll have someone take her there. No one else touches her.” I give him a look, but it’s still not getting through to him.
He saw her once and decided he understood her. No. He doesn’t know a damn thing about her.
“I loved her,” I bite out. “Long before any of you vultures circled her name. You get your peace offering. I go back to your prison. Your chains. But I get Rhea. That’s the deal. If not, I’m leaving with her body. And I’ll go so far into the fucking wild not you, not your Council, not anyone will ever find me.”
He hesitates, but just for a second. His jaw clenches so hard I can literally hear it.
“Fine,” he snaps, the word forcing itself out of him. He reaches into his coat and hands me his phone. “Make it fast before the rest of the Council sees this as betrayal.”
With that, he turns, but he doesn’t walk away until he finishes, “I’ll set a fire in here. I’ll tell them you snapped. That you torched the place and then surrendered after. But don’t even think that I’m doing this for you. I’m doing this for her because she deserves a good place to go.”
He’s gone after that. I open up the phone and dial Kovas‘ number quickly.
There’s no time to waste.
He picks on the third thing. It’s early in the morning, he’s probably outside, on a run or something.
Much better.
“Kovas,”
“Aron?” He’s surprised. “Why do you have-”
“There’s no time for explanations,” My voice is low, quiet. “Come to the Blackfang territory. To their packhouse.”
“What for?”
“How long will it take?” I question that first.
He pauses, “A few hours if I bring someone, or drive.”
“No,” I turn away and look at the room inside, where she still is. “You need to make it faster.”
“What happened?”
“It’s Rhea,” I choke it out of my self. “You need to take her body from the pack house before anyone from the council comes here.”
“What–what are you talking about?” I can hear him panicking already.
“Something happened. Someone happened. Just tell me you’re on your way.”
“I’ll leave right away.”
“You won’t find me here. I’ll probably be gone by the time you come, back to the prison. But whenever you come, take her and hide her, and take her back to the house.” My eyes close, and my fingers curl. “Just make sure she gets there.”
“Are you sure about this?” He questions. “Aron-”
“Just do what you’ve to do. You know it better than anyone else.”
CHAPTER 150 What Remains Of Her
There’s a moment of silence on the other end that stretches for way too long.
“Kovas?”
“Yes, yes, fuck, okay. I’ll come, I’ll do it.”
