“Ahhh!!” Matthew let out a pained scream, barely dodging the next whip strike.
“How dare you hit me!” Matthew roared, his eyes darkening as he glared at the attacker. But seeing who it was, Matthew froze in place, completely stunned.
“Diana? What are you doing here?” Matthew asked, disbelief etched across his face.
Diana stood fiercely, her lips curling into a cold sneer. “If I weren’t here, how much longer were you planning to help that illegitimate brat bully my best friend Liza?”
At first, Matthew had been genuinely happy to see her. After all, Diana was his fiancée, and they had grown up together, practically inseparable. Their engagement had been based on mutual affection, so seeing her after a long time brought a flicker of joy.
But that joy was short–lived. The next moment, Diana’s furious tirade crashed into him and Sophie. Matthew frowned, his expression darkening. “It’s been months, and you’re still as hot–headed as ever. Fine, yell at me if you must, but leave Sophie out of this. And don’t speak with such words again.”
Diana let out a sharp, sarcastic laugh, her anger flaring even more. “Oh, you think my words are harsh? Then maybe you shouldn’t have done such disgraceful things in the first place!”
Her simmering anger exploded when she saw Matthew still defending that illegitimate girl in front of her. The fire that had momentarily subsided had roared back to life.
“Matthew, you heartless fool! What did I tell you before I left Hasen City? I told you to take good care of Liza! And this is how you’ve been protecting her?
“Helping some illegitimate brat bully your sister? What’s wrong with you? You’re her brother, for crying out loud!” Diana’s voice was sharp and relentless. “I don’t care if others have done it, but you, Matthew. You swore to me. And yet, in just a few months, you’ve already helped that little bitch push Liza so far that she had to leave the Duke’s estate and become a nun!
“She’s a noble daughter of the Duke’s estate, raised with all the love and care in the world, someone no one in Hasen City would dare to wrong. And now? She’s been humiliated and wronged by her brothers to the point of leaving everything behind!”
Diana’s words came like a relentless storm, leaving Matthew’s face embarrassed. Even Benedict, standing nearby, didn’t dare to get involved.
Benedict quickly had his steward, Manson, help him retreat, terrified that Diana might redirect her fury toward him.
It had been months since he last saw her, and Diana’s temper hadn’t mellowed. It was even more explosive. He was secretly relieved that he’d agreed to call Matthew out earlier. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to withstand Diana’s wrath.
Moreover, since she was Matthew’s fiancée, it was only fair that he dealt with her himself. But even Matthew couldn’t hold back anymore. He roared at Diana in frustration, “Enough! Shut up already!”
Diana froze for a moment, then stared at him in disbelief. “What did you just say? Did you tell me to shut up?”
She let out a sharp laugh, her anger bubbling over. “Well done, Matthew, you’ve grown a spine, huh? Yelling at me now, are
you?
“Looks like there’s no reasoning today. Fine, no more talking. Matthew, you’re dead meat!” Her eyes flashed coldly as she took her whip and snapped it toward Matthew without a second thought.
“You!” Matthew, who had been beaten, was furious and immediately fought back.
‘This lunatic! Why does she never let me talk things out properly?‘
