Sophie was bawling her eyes out, her tiny face streaked with tears, and her eyes red and swollen.
She reached out with her little hand, gently tugging at the corner of Dylan’s shirt. Tilting her head slightly, she looked up at him with tear–filled eyes.
She looked like she truly realized her mistake, like she was sincerely pleading for Dylan’s forgiveness.
But in reality, she thought, I’ve put on such a convincing act. Dylan’s bound to fall for it!
Sophie was brimming with confidence.
She refused to believe Dylan could be so cold–hearted, seeing her like this and still not budging an inch
However, a sharp sound echoed through the thatched hut.
It wasn’t Dylan slapping Sophie.
Instead, he had mercilessly swatted away her hand that was clutching his sleeve.
Dylan’s expression was cold as ice. He looked down at Sophie and said in a frosty tone, “That’s your problem, not mine.”
“Dylan?” Matthew stared at him in disbelief. “How can you be so heartless? Are you really going to just ignore Sophie?”
Dylan said, “Heartless? If I were truly heartless, I wouldn’t have opened the door for you, let alone given you my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow.”
Matthew thought, ‘Those two rock–hard biscuits are his breakfast and lunch? He’s calling that breakfast and lunch?
‘He must be joking, right?”
Even Matthew found it hard to believe, let alone Sophie.
They had grown up surrounded by luxury. They had never even seen anything so unappetizing before, and yet Dylan claimed that was his meal for tomorrow.
Matthew couldn’t believe it, and Sophie certainly didn’t either.
But Dylan didn’t care whether they believed him or not.
His cold gaze swept over the two of them. “You had a good life, but you chose to ruin it. Fine, ruin it if you want, but don’t come here pretending to visit me. You never cared about me as your brother before, but now that you’re in trouble, you think I’m running a shelter for beggars?

“Eliza did nothing wrong, yet because of Sophie, because of us, she ran away from home. She was only fifteen, and now she’s living her life in solitude, accompanied only by a flickering lamp. Do you think a simple ‘I’m sorry‘ can make up for that?”
Matthew couldn’t hold back anymore. He shouted, “But that was Eliza’s own choice! How can you blame everything on Sophie? Yes, she made mistakes, but wasn’t it you who truly drove Eliza to leave?”
Dylan’s anger vanished in an instant
His pupils trembled slightly before he fell silent.
The atmosphere in the hut grew oppressively quiet
Inside, the three of them stood frozen.
Sophie was too afraid to speak.
Matthew was still seething with anger.
Dylan’s buned pain had been dragged to the surface once more.
He pressed his lips together and closed his eyes briefly, as if trying to gather his strength. “You’re right. I have no right to
lecture you.”
With that, Dylan turned and walked out of the hut.
Matthew watched Dylan’s defeated figure, his lips parting as if to call out to him.
