These were items he had bought for Caroline and had included when sending her belongings to Saint Grace Nunnery. Yet, for some reason, Eliza had an uncanny eye for detail and singled out these particular items, sending them back to the Duke’s estate.
The remaining items were all things Caroline had brought from the Padilla family.
It was as if Eliza was making a statement that she would take everything her mother had brought with her, but not a single thing from him. She had drawn a clear and unmistakable line between the two,
