The moment my lunar veil disalpated, the bitter cold of Mount Den hit me like a wave. We had arrived. Her skin is a sickly, mottled gray, stretched thin over her brittle bones. Deep wrinkles carve her face like cracks in ancient stone, and ber hollow, sunken eyes glow with an eerie, unnatural light.
Behind her, an army of witches and umbrakins stretched across the mountaintop, their dark figures shifting restlessly.
And then-
A voice.
Not just hers. But farmiliar,
But something deeper.
Something ancient and terrible.
It slithered through the air, wrapping around my soul like a noose.
“Ah, little woll. We have been waiting for you.”
A chill ran down my spine, but I lifted my chin, forcing my body to remain steady,
“I see you’re still using vessels to speak,”
Mother took another step forward, her lips curling in a smile that was far too sharp,a twisted grin of jagged, blackened teeth, Mother took a step forward, her smile like a blade. “And I see you are still bent on stopping me.”
I clenched my fists. “You won’t win.”
She tilted her head, “Oh, but I already have.”

The ground trembled beneaths, and I felt a pulse of magic unlike bything I had ever encountered. The monolith at the summit’s center pulsed with eerie light, and the key around my neck suddenly burned with an unnatural beat.
Mother’s smile widened,
“Give the key to me, and I will grant you a place beside me.”
I frowned. “What?”
“I a no mere spirit,” she continued, “I am a godless, older than the cars. And when I return, and with my power, I can give you everything.”
She gestured to my mates,
“You and your beloved mates can rule together. A new age. A kingdom where no one will dare defy you.”

“Say yes, and I will make you a queen you will rule your kind, while you all worship mo,” she whispered. “You will be second only to

“So be it,” she whispered.
And the world erupted into chaos.
1 shifted, my growl shaking the mountain. Magic clashed against clays as witches hurled fire and shadows while my mates and I fought back with everything we had.
Alex’s fire roared to life, creating barriers against the oncoming way of witches andumbrakins, Isaiah’s shadow weapons flickered between the enemies, striking with deadly precision.
Austin was a force of nature–he froze and shattered umbrakins.
Elijah, still recovering, fought beside me, his shield blocking attacks.
But there were too many.
