It wasn’t just Diana and the others who recognized Isabelle’s voice; Sophie did too. She turned to Caleb and asked, “Why is Isabelle here?”
Caleb, however, looked puzzled. “Isabelle? No, she’s not Isabelle.”
Sophie was bewildered. “If she’s not Isabelle, then who is she?”
The voice was crystal clear to her–definitely Isabelle’s. There was no way she could be mistaken.
But Caleb shook his head again. “Don’t you know? Isabelle passed away a while ago. The Henderson family even held the funeral.”
“Isabelle is dead? How could that be possible?” Sophie was skeptical. ‘If Isabelle is dead, then who was the one speaking just now?‘ she wondered to herself. Sophie almost couldn’t resist the urge to lift her veil and take a look.
Beside her, Caleb continued to explain, “She’s really not Isabelle. She’s Raisa Henderson, the third heiress whom the Henderson family brought back recently. She’s supposedly Lord Henderson’s legitimate daughter, who was lost when she was young. She has nothing to do with Isabelle.”
‘Raisa? Isabelle? Are they the same person, or do they just sound similar?‘ Sophie thought to herself.
Suppressing her urge to lift the veil and see for herself, Sophie listened as Adeline, upon hearing Raisa’s words, raised an eyebrow and smiled. She had been thinking along the same lines.
“Well, Sophie, you should stay and take a look first. Caleb can take you back later, Adeline said. As Sophie’s new mother–in- law, Adeline was always looking for opportunities to assert her authority over her.
But Sophie wasn’t so easily manipulated. She knew that staying would be a trap.
Firstly, Adeline definitely didn’t have any good intentions. Secondly, Sophie wasn’t sure whether it was Isabelle or Raisa. But the tone of voice alone was enough to make Sophie instinctively dislike her, which meant she was definitely not someone to be trifled with.
Thirdly, Diana was here today. But, with so many people seemingly intent on embarrassing her, Sophie wasn’t afraid at all. Especially since Eliza had dared to show up, Sophie was determined to make sure Eliza didn’t get away scot–free. Sophie suddenly reached out and pinched Caleb. “Caleb, have you forgotten what I told Annie to tell you earlier?” Sophie wanted Caleb to stand up for her and teach these people, especially Eliza, a lesson. Whether or not Eliza still had feelings for Caleb, as long as Caleb was on Sophie’s side, Eliza wouldn’t stand a chance.
Sophie had already sent someone to brief Caleb, but unexpectedly, he hesitated and said, “T–this doesn’t seem quite right, Sophie. You might be overthinking things. Eliza said she came to give you a gift, so she definitely won’t do anything. Let’s just let it go.”
Under her veil, Sophie’s face was full of disbelief. If it weren’t for the inappropriate timing, she would have loudly questioned whether Caleb was a fool.
Eliza and Diana had clearly shown their ill intentions earlier, yet Caleb still dared to say that Eliza wouldn’t do anything. ‘Fool, wait? Could it be that he’s still thinking about marrying Eliza?‘ she thought. Sophie’s expression crumbled instantly, and her anger flared. ‘How dare Caleb treat me like this?‘
At the thought of this possibility, Sophie felt like tearing Caleb apart right then and there, along with Eliza, who had dared to come and flirt with Caleb.
Suppressing her anger with great effort, Sophie thought, ‘Fine, you all want to bully me, huh? I’m not someone to be messed with.‘
“Since you’re here to give.a gift, I’m more than happy to see it. Eliza, why don’t you bring out the gift now and show us all? I‘ m very curious to see what you’ve prepared for me,” Sophie said.
Sophie tried her best to keep her voice from trembling with anger, but Eliza still sensed her fury.
Eliza raised an eyebrow slightly and smiled. “Mrs. Nevill, my gift is rather special. If I were to bring it out now, I’m afraid you might not have the heart to stay any longer.”
“Why not take a look at the gift I’ve prepared for Mrs. Nevill first?” Diana said.
Listening to their sarcasm, Sophie’s anger surged thread and asked Annie in a hushed, impatient
voice, “Has he arrived yet?”
Annie whispered back, “He’s on his way.”
Diana, however, didn’t care whether Sophie agreed or not. As soon as she spoke, she waved her hand, and the guards immediately brought out the gift she had prepared.

She had already taken out her gift, but someone insisted on competing with her for precedence. “This is-”
“This gift is for Lord Caleb and Mrs. Nevill,” a voice interrupted.
Raisa rose with a smile, signaling for the gift to be delivered right in front of Caleb and Sophie. The exquisite wooden boxes numbered four in total.
Afterward, Raisa gave Diana a provocative look. Diana’s fists clenched and unclenched, her eyes darkening. She was certain this was Isabelle.
After taunting Diana, Raisa continued speaking eloquently. “As everyone here should know, swans are rare and auspicious birds. Their feathers are beautiful, their posture elegant, and they symbolize unwavering love. To bless the relationship between Lord Caleb and Mrs. Nevill, I have specially prepared this gift.”
Isabelle clapped her hands. “Go ahead. Open them for Lord Caleb and Mrs. Nevill, and let all the guests have a look.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the servants holding the gifts immediately lifted the lids of the wooden boxes. Each box contained one item, making a total of four gifts.
The first was a mask made of swan feathers. The second was a hat adorned with swan tail feathers. The third was a garment embroidered with two swans. The last item was a pair of high heels, also embroidered with two swans.
After everyone had taken a good look, Isabelle asked with a beaming smile, “What do you think? Lord Caleb, are you satisfied?”
Caleb wished his cold glare could kill Isabelle. Similarly, the guests who saw the four gifts exchanged puzzled glances, and for a moment, no one applauded.
The gifts Isabelle had sent were not poorly made, but each item featured a broken heart.
Swans do symbolize unwavering love, but the presence of broken hearts on all the gifts was unmistakable.
Indeed, Isabelle had deliberately had the broken hearts embroidered. After seeing them, Caleb’s expression turned gloomy.
Moreover, the pair of shoes even had slightly torn upper, clearly intended as a mockery.
