Gabriel was genuinely startled by Sophie’s frantic actions. His pupils contracted, and he shouted, “Stop her!”
Just as Sophie was about to slam into the wooden pillar, a shadow guard dropped down and blocked her path in time.

second.
Sophie, trembling with excitement, forced herself up from the floor, rushing out the door before Gabriel could change his mind. She hastily said, “Father, I didn’t mean it earlier. Please don’t take it to heart. You… you’re still my real father. I just need to go for a little while. I’ll be back soon.”
She hurriedly left the Duke’s estate.
After Sophie walked out of the Duke’s estate gates, Gabriel’s disdainful expression quickly faded.
He gave a blank look and ordered, “Send more men after her. Don’t let her realize she’s being followed. Once you see her meeting someone, capture them. Don’t let anyone escape.”
“Yes, sir,” the shadow guard responded as he prepared to leave.
“Wait.” Gabriel called him back, narrowing his eyes as he added, “If they resist, kill them on the spot.”
“Yes, sir.”
With Sophie’s refusal to speak, Gabriel had no doubts at all.
Sophie might be foolish, but she wasn’t so dumb as to act this way without being threatened with her life.
So rather than keep her locked up, he decided to play along and let her go.
He was curious to see who was bold enough to threaten Sophie into stealing from the Stonor family.
As Gabriel had expected, Sophie didn’t head back to the Marquis’s estate after leaving the Duke’s estate. Instead, she made a beeline for the city gates.

She had to hurry, faster, faster.

Fear gripped Sophie as she forced herself to endure the waves of pain, desperately pushing the carriage forward.
By the time Sophie finally reached the foot of Mount Westin, she had no strength left.
As the carriage arrived at Dylan’s doorstep, Sophie collapsed from the carriage.

Sophie could only shake and grip Eliza’s robe, begging, “Please… please… I don’t… I don’t want to die.”
Eliza replied coldly, “You’ve messed up, and brought a whole bunch of problems. Do you really think I’ll let you off?” Problems? Sophie froze for a moment, then instantly understood.
Tears poured from her eyes, but she couldn’t speak, her mouth opening and closing in silent agony.
She could only lie there, her pain slowly turning into coldness.
Cold to the point of shivering, cold to the point of numbness..
Until, finally, Sophie lost all sensation, and her eyes slowly, slowly closed.
“Is she dead?”
Renee asked, poking Sophie with a small stick. Seeing no reaction, she turned to Eliza.
Eliza shook her head, “Not yet. The poison I gave her is not lethal.”
“Why?” Renee asked.
Renee was taken aback by this response.
“Someone like her doesn’t deserve to live. Why didn’t you just kill her outright?” Renee asked.
Eliza glanced at Sophie’s lifeless form, her voice indifferent, “It’s not that I can’t kill her, but I promised Mary I wouldn’t use
poison to kill. Don’t worry, Sophie won’t die from this poison, but tonight, she is as good as dead.”
And rather than just poisoning her, Eliza planned to use Sophie. The Stonor family was still around, and her “good father was still alive. It was time to prepare a grand gift for them.
Eliza glanced at the nearby forest and told Renee, “Tina’s delay has lasted long enough. Let’s go.”
Before leaving, she touched the ground. Soon, poisonous insects appeared under her hand, scurrying off in every direction, hiding away.
Once they were gone, Tina appeared quickly.
And behind her, a large group of Duke’s estate shadow guards followed closely.
