“You’re too kind, Your Highness and Your Grace. I’ll make sure to pass on your kind words. His Majesty and Her Majesty will surely be delighted and look forward to welcoming you tomorrow.”
After James and the others left, Nolan turned to Eliza and asked, “Do you want to ay in Hasen City to rest, or head back to Saint Grace Nunnery right away?”
The Padilla family’s residence has already been prepared, so if Eliza feels too tired, she could stay there for the night.
What Eliza didn’t realize was that Nolan wasn’t talking about the Padilla residence at all.
Someone’s little schemes were bubbling up, eager to test the waters whenever the chance arose.
Unfortunately, Eliza was as oblivious as ever, completely missing the hidden meaning in his words. She simply shook her head earnestly and said, “It’s been a while since I’ve been back. Mary’s probably been worried sick. I should return to the nunnery soon to put her and my senior sisters at ease.”
“Alright, I’ll arrange for some people to escort you back.” Nolan felt reluctant, wishing he could spend more time with her. But he hadn’t been back to the Prince Regent’s residence in ages, and the pile of matters waiting for him there was likely
endless.
Not just now–he’d be swamped for the next few days. So, he had no choice but to send someone else to accompany Eliza.
Eliza didn’t mind this arrangement at all.
But someone else did.
“Wait, sis! Where are you headed? Can I come along?” Rafe suddenly popped his head out, wedging himself between Eliza and Nolan.
Eliza slapped her forehead. ‘Oh no, I’d almost forgotten about this guy!‘
“Of course you can’t come with me.” Eliza declined.
Saint Grace Nunnery was a place for nuns. Rafe was a boy, and even though he was still just a kid, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to go there.
Eliza was debating whether to send him to the Padilla family when Nolan suddenly reached out and grabbed the young man by the collar, his tone calm but commanding. “You’re coming with me. I’ll arrange a place for you to stay.”
Rafe didn’t quite agree.
But before he could even open his mouth, Nolan’s sharp gaze pinned him in place. “Not an option. Even with Eliza vouching for you, it doesn’t mean the danger you pose is gone. So, you’ve got two choices.”
Rafe swallowed nervously, his voice trembling. “W–what are the choices?”
“Option one: come to my residence and behave yourself under my watch. Option two: I cripple you right here and now, leaving you barely alive. Your call.”
He didn’t want either of them!
Rafe, who only wanted to stick close to Eliza, cursed silently in his heart.
But knowing he couldn’t possibly take on Nolan, he had no choice but to reluctantly agree to the first option.
To be honest, Eliza felt a sense of relief at this arrangement.
After all, as Nolan had pointed out, the threat Rafe posed hadn’t completely disappeared.
Someone needed to keep a close eye on him.
Initially, Eliza had planned to ask Tina to handle this, but she hadn’t expected Nolan to step in on his own.
Under Nolan’s watchful eye, Rafe would undoubtedly behave himself better.
Still, this meant troubling the Prince Regent once again.
Eliza made a mental note to check her savings when she got back. Besides the wedding gift she had already prepared for Diana, she’d need to prepare a proper thank–you gift for Nolan as well.
While Eliza was lost in thought, Nolan had already dragged Rafe off without giving him a chance to resist.
