Chapter 181
ARON
I chase her through the woods, her scent stronger than ever, triggering even the parts of me that have never been touched. The sun gleams bright overhead and I almost get to her, but she’s quick to slip from my grasp.
‘You can’t run once you’ve been caught.‘ I tell her through the link.
‘That’s the point. You’ve never caught me.’
‘That would be cheating.
‘Oh, don’t tell me you’ve lost your edge, Alpha.‘
I growl, lowly, and I’m certain she hears it. That teasing lilt in her voice is too tempting. She’s baiting me and I’m falling for it, again.
My legs move faster. The sound of her heartbeat is all I need to track her, and once I do, I lunge at her and press her to the ground for the constant teasing she has been doing.
‘What were you saying?‘
‘I don’t remember.‘
I almost laugh at that. ‘Go on. Shift.‘
‘But I don’t have clothes, and anyone could see me.‘
‘There’s no one here but me,’ I keep her pinned to the ground and continue. ‘Don’t worry, it’s nothing, something that I haven’t seen before.
‘I lost, but it doesn’t mean I’ve to be naked.’
‘That’s what it exactly means.
I growl at her, and she shifts underneath me without wasting a moment more. The feel of her flesh against mine rattles my wolf even more strongly now that I’ve marked her. Now that he has marked her.
He takes joy in watching her from beneath, and I don’t concern myself over it as long as he remains there. Inside.
It has been like since the past few days, since Rhea came back from the Council’s headquarters. She’s seems a little tensed, I’m not sure for what reason, but at the same time, she has been more… deliberate.
In her touches. Her words and the way she watches me as if she wants something from me, but can’t tell.
“I’ve been chasing you every morning for three days, and you still can’t get enough of it,” I say, brushing her hair back from her face as I pin her beneath
- me.
Her skin flushes, and she grins, lips parting just slightly. “Maybe I like being hunted.”
“You do,” I murmur, leaning in and letting my mouth graze the side of her throat. “You like knowing exactly when I’ll catch you.”
She shifts her hips beneath me, and the sound that comes out of my chest is not entirely mine. Kael pushes again, stronger this time.
The feel of her, her scent, her actions, her submission–but not because she’s weak. Never that. Because she wants it. Because she’s choosing it.
He likes that.
Too much.

Chapter 181
Just because I caught you doesn’t mean you get rewarded.”
“I don’t?” She pouts while running her hand down my chest..
“You don’t.”
I get off the ground and drag her up with me. The sight of her bareness makes me hard, but not right here, not right now. I rein it in barely. Because Kaet wants it, wants her like this, wild, flushed, covered in grass and heat and the scent of our bond still clinging to her skin. He’s pressing against me from the inside, watching her through my eyes like a predator studying prey it already owns.
I still don’t give in.
“I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“And it has to be like this?” She wraps her arms around me, indulging into me.
“Yes,” I wrap my hands around her arms. “I don’t want you to get surprised.”
“At?”
“There’s a small gathering tomorrow evening. My family, if you still remember-‘
“Yes, your mother, who despises me and your sister, who despises me a little less.” Her tone is full of humour, and I catch on to it.
“Yes. Them,” I nod. “Along with a few other relatives, I wish I could say I forgot about.”
She laughs, but it’s short. “Are you sure? I mean, you’re still hiding from the council.”
e
“Oh, they won’t speak a word. More likely, they’re coming to see how I’m doing after my incarceration. Especially my mother.”
She nods, understanding what it all means.
“And you want me to be there?”
“Of course,” I say, my hands sliding down her arms. “You’re mine. You stand beside me. They already know that and now they’re going to see it.”
“Alright. I’ll be on my best behaviour then.” She grins wider and then steps back.
“I know you’ll be. I’m just informing you. If there’s anything you’re bothered about, you can share with me. And if you’re uncomfortable-”
“Not at all.”
I’m a little relieved to hear that, that she’s fine with it, especially after all that happened
We head back to the house after that, in our forms, and shift back. Rhea heads up stairs to take a shower while I attend some calls from the pack.
Kovas still remains the Alpha. Taking the position and title right now seems a bit too quick, and it can easily notify the Council that my wolf is alive and that I’m back in power.
“Keep my updated when my family arrives into town.” I tell him on the call.
“I will,” He responds. “And there’s one more thing I wanted to talk about. But perhaps we can speak of it when I come later?”
“Tell me. I’m free.”
On the line, Kovas hesitates for a breath too long.
“It’s about the girl.” he says.

Chapter 181
“What girl?”
“The one from the Southern line,” he clarifies and then I recall it. “Arrived a few days ago, asked for asylum. I filled you in, right?”
“Yes.”
“She’s… unusual.”
“How?”
“She knows too much about the Council’s movements and isn’t exactly forthcoming about how. I’ve kept her in the pack’s shelter for now. But do you not think it’s odd? Someone from the council could’ve send her, to keep an eye on Rhea and you?”
“You’re thinking too much. If she has fled her pack and is seeking for asylum in our pack, there’s no need to assume the worst.”
“You’re probably right.”
“We’ll speak more of this when you come.”
“Better.”
I drop the call and wrap things up before heading up stairs to check on Rhea. Ever since my incarceration, I’ve been a bit changed myself. There’s no rage, or anger that I feel anymore. Just gratitude.
For everything.
Rhea’s not in the shower when I reach there, so I head to my office and that’s where I find her. Near my desk, shuffling through some things until I catch
her.
“Looking for something?”
