Matthew nonchalantly removed his suit jacket, revealing a white shirt beneath that did little to conceal the muscular frame of an Alpha male.
He rolled up his sleeves, exposing his strong arms. His hands, gripping the steering wheel, exuded an aura of strength that even an ordinary wolf like Rishima found a little intimidating.
She thought to herself, “Zelda really overestimates me.”
It wasn’t that Rishima underestimated herself, but Mr. Jones was clearly an Alpha from a distinguished pack. The luxury watch on his wrist alone, worth at least a million dollars, confirmed that a wolf like him would never be interested in a female with her past.
Zelda’s efforts to matchmake them seemed futile.
But Zelda didn’t feel awkward at all. On the contrary, she was ecstatic, continuously texting Rishima about Matthew as if she were eager for Rishima and Matthew to become mates immediately just to irritate the cunning duo, Zvonimir and Farah.
Zelda even went as far as calling Rishima directly: “Well? Didn’t I introduce you to a very handsome wolf? Haha, when you saw him, did your heart race? Don’t be shy, Rishima. If you like him, go after him. Let me tell you, Matthew’s pack is no less powerful than Zvonimir’s. Don’t miss out on a great wolf like Matthew.”
Patiently enduring Zelda’s chatter for a while longer, Rishima finally hung up and reluctantly stuffed her phone back into her pocket, pretending not to see the string of messages Zelda had sent.
At this moment, she genuinely had no desire to look for a new mate. She had become utterly disillusioned with the idea of pairing up with another male wolf. Deep down, she still loved Zvonimir dearly. All she wanted now was to leave the empire, live a peaceful life, and eventually give birth to and raise her two wolf pups.
Thinking about the two little wolf cubs, still as tiny as seeds inside her, Rishima couldn’t help but smile sweetly as she gently placed her hand on her flat belly.
She was only two months pregnant, so her stomach hadn’t shown any signs yet. But in a few months, her belly would surely grow significantly. If she were still in the empire by then, there was a high chance the Silverfang pack would discover her pregnancy.
So far, Zvonimir hadn’t let her go, nor allowed her peace. Thus, she needed to leave the empire as soon and as far as possible, even changing her phone number and identity documents.
Lost in thoughts about the future, Rishima suddenly heard a gentle voice by her ear: “Are you feeling unwell, Rishima?”
Snapping back to reality, Rishima found Matthew looking at her with concern. She shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Being an intelligent wolf, Matthew quickly sensed that Rishima wasnt inclined to engage with him. Respectfully, he didn’t press further and instead said, “If you’re tired, you can sleep in the backseat for a while. I’ll wake you up when we arrive home.”
“No need…” Rishima instinctively declined. She didn’t want to trouble him.
Matthew pulled the car over, turned to look at her, and said gently yet firmly, “Don’t try to be strong. Rest for a bit, or Zelda will scold me for not taking care of you.”
There was a playful note in Matthew’s tone.
Rishima had always appreciated gentleness. If a wolf treated her pooly, she’d respond with Indifference. But if they were kind to her, she couldn’t refuse their requests.

Seeing her hesitation, Matthew grabbed an umbrella from the back, got out, walked to her side of the car, opened the door, and invited her to move to the backseat.
“Thank you.” Rishima had no choice but to oblige.
Matthew even covered her with a thin blanket after she settled in.
Starting the car again, Matthew drove on. Exhausted both physically and mentally, Rishima dozed off shortly after lying down. The soft music playing in the car helped lull her into a peaceful sleep.
Matthew drove steadily, occasionally glancing, at the sleeping female through the rearview mirror, a faint smile on his lips.
It had been three years since he last saw Rishima. This was only the second time he’d truly looked at her. The first time was at the ceremony where she and Zvonimir officially became mates.
Matthew and Zvonimir had been university classmates. Both were Alpha males, their packs‘ powers almost evenly matched. While not close friends, they were acquaintances.
When Zvonimir and Rishima bonded, the Silverfang and Moonlight packs were collaborating on a project, so Matthew attended the bonding ceremony as the Moonlight pack’s representative.
At the ceremony, sitting among the guests, Matthew saw Zvonimir lead Rishima by the hand, and a thought crossed his mind: How could a female be so beautiful?
The thought flickered briefly, leaving no desire in Matthew to claim Rishima for himself. Soon after, he went abroad to study. Upon returning to the empire, he assumed the role of Alpha of the Moonlight pack.
Matthew was genuinely shocked to hear Zvonimir had abandoned Rishima. When his secretary informed him of their severed bond, his first thought was: How could Zvonimir give up such a beautiful female?
Reality confirmed it–Zvonimir had indeed abandoned her. Worse, he had quickly mated another female.
Was it solely because Rishima couldn’t have wolf pups?
When Matthew heard this, he found it hard to believe. The empire’s birth rate was already low, and infertility hadn’t been a reason to reject wolves for a long time. However, on reflection, he understood. As one of the empire’s four largest packs, the Silverfang pack demanded its Alpha have heirs. The elders would never allow an infertile female like Rishima to remain as Zvonimir’s mate and the pack’s future Luna.
Perhaps unused to sleeping in a car, Rishima couldn’t rest comfortably despite her fatigue. Her dreams were chaotic.
In one dream, her aunt pointed angrily at her face, shouting: “You’re useless! I only asked you to wash dishes, and you broke several! Are you trying to sabotage me? Tonight, you won’t eat dinner or sleep indoors. You’ll sleep outside!”
