Chapter 10

Chapter to

Rhea

36

I don’t sleep for the rest of the night. I stay awake until the sun rises and then when it’s time, head straight to the pack house. The morning, quiet walk roses some of the panic in my head but I can’t rum from reality. The dread that I have inside of me is too big to be washed away easily

I run into Tony when 1step inside

Hey.” He makes a sheepish simile at me as soon as his eyes are settled on me

Hi| mutter back, not really finding the voice to raise or carry

How’s your arm

It’s better, say, not really knowing what to answer. It still hurts but the painkillers eased some of the pain. A runt didn’t heal as quick as a normal wolf, or a warrior did. It’s going to take weeks before I can move my arm properly even with the little impact. Thanks for asking”

That’s alright. Ethel’s got me on cleaning duty upstairs. So, I’m going to go get on that.Tony quickly says before making his way to the stairs

I move away from the grand foyer and head into the kitchen. I don’t want to think what’s on the third floor but I can’t help it. He’s still here, resting in one of the room up therewaiting for something, something from me

Pushing those thoughts aside, I get to my job

Clean Cook Relieve and repeat

Rachel gives me a wave from behind the kitchen cou

counter. I saw the guests at dinner time and god, they were all some fine

1 let out a laugh. Yeah.”

“I hope they are here for a long time. It was good seeing some fresh faces and not the same rotten ones we had been used to,” Rachel chops up something that’s in front of her. And they are so respectful too. I hope they stay longer

There isn’t anything wrong with what Rachel said. For most part, she’s right, Most warriors living in the house from our pack were rude, unsympathetic and they looked down at us. But these men are different. Most of them are kinder and not demanding

Considering the pack they came from, the BloodClaw pack, my assumptions were different but turned out I am wrong

Again with the gossips!Ethel steps inside with a frustrated face

I move away as soon from Rachel as soon as she’s inside. She prohibits us to gossip, let alone talk. We’re here for work. For most part, I don’t mind her rules. I hardly chit chat with people

How’s the breakfast coming?she asks Rachel who still preparing with two others cooks that are in the back

Almost done.”

Ethel glances at me, You’re in early?”

I woke up early. I say with a shrug. Anything you’ve for me?”

Chapter 10

Take the breakfast to the Alpha’s office once Rachel is done with it,” she orders while nodding her head toward the food near the counter. And when you’re done, take another breakfast to Alpha Aron’s room, the fifth one in the corner on the third

floor.”

I hesitate before responding to her, Are you sure you want me to do that?”

Her face scrunches up in confusion, and 1 resist the urge to swallow nervously. Why? Why wouldn’t I be sure?she raises at

brow at me

I don’t remind her of what happened two nights ago, at Alpha Elias birthday party. I’m not that stupid. I should pretend it never happened and move on. And I can’t raise suspicion with Ethel either. So, I lower my head, feigning apology, and force my lips into a line, unable to find anything else to respond

She gives me a one more disapproving look before letting out a isk under her breath, clearly annoyed by my lack of response, and walks out

She’s pissed,” Rachel shrugs as she prepares the tray for me

I don’t say anything. I stay silent until she’s done finishing up the first tray. As soon as she is, I head up stairs with it and into Alpha Elias office. I prepare myself to see Aron again, but to my surprise he’s not there this time. Alpha Elias is on a call with someone and he signals me to put it down near the couches

I quickly do exactly that and then excuse myself out of the office without awaiting for a word from him. I always keep it this way. Make it quick. For anything and everything that I do here

Next up is Aron’s room. I half expect for him to be out somewhere or downstairs

With a heavy heart and a knot in my throat, I give a quick knock as the door is locked. I wait for a few seconds and as those seconds pass by, I fully plan to make a run for the stairs and go back down and tell Ethel that no one opened the door

This way, I don’t have to face him

But then the door opens with a swift moment and a broad, tall frame looms over right in front of me

To my dismay, Aron is present

I have breakfast.I say

His dark eyes eyes narrow on me, but he steps aside, letting me pass, and shutting the door behind him. My heart skips another beat as I take in his appearance. He’s wearing a pair of loose black sweatpants and nothing else. His hair is a disheveled mess, his jaw covered in a light scruff. He looks, for lack of better words, absolutely sinful

I shake my head out of those thoughts and place the tray on the table near the window. When I lean back up, he’s right behind me, making me jump in place

He leans closer, so close that I can see the individual bristles of his facial hair. He’s so close that if I wanted to, all I have to do is shift my weight and I would be brushing up against him

No.

The wolf inside me screams and cries at the same time. Screams for me to close the distance, and cry in pain knowing the kind of man Aron is. He is not a sweetheart, or a romantic guy like every hero of a romance bookthe boys you had crushes on while growing up. He’s a predator. A hunter, a ruthless and cold blooded Alpha of the fiercest pack in the region. He’s merciless

They are stories of him written. Stories about his cruel disposition and his thirst for power. I’ve grown up reading them, and I know more than to tangle my self in this

Especially after the dream I had. I’ll keep distance. No matter wha

His dark eyes follow every miniscule of movements and food in the way like he is memorizing cataloging every breath, stil. his hand comes to my back, careful, yer gripping as if he red rejer even touching me

Dilemma

If only I can go back to before the son sims, Tid with that he is like any other hey, or any normal watt Held be more appschable. Not with an ass an fetal, so langerous

Maybe then just maybe I wouldn’t be an intimidated on scared and woodd have gotten to know him for who he really is

should go.”

Have breakfastAron offers

I clench my fit to stop my hand from shaking and take a step back as he points to the table where breakfast is kept. “T- already ate 1 Mammet a bit unsure. He stares at me, not ultering a word as he watches me stumble on my own lie

He doesn’t use that stern or commanding tone I’d expect a mighty Alpha would normally speak with. It’s calm, almost soothing except it has no impact on me, not for the worst

He keeps maring. His gaze burns and wanns my skin and 1 step backward once more, because he doesn’t let me go

I am trying to understand why you’re so reluctant and scared around me. Am I a hideous person for you?he questions as he steps closer

So tell me what I’m doing wrong then? Why don’t you want to be my mate?He leans closer, one of his hands coming up and almost touching my cheek. Why aren’t you letting me near you, Rhea?”

He speaks my name so tenderly. It has this effect in which suddenly I am melting in front of him and he’s pulling me deeper. But I break the spell and distance myself the moment he grabs my forearm with my bad shoulder

Pain strikes through me, hot and intense. It’s an instinctive, visceral reaction that can’t be ignored, and when I let a small yelp slip past my lips. Aron lets go immediately

Did I hurt you

It’s fine, I back away a bit, hiding my arm to my side before he sees the now, swelling wound made during practice of throwing axes. I have work to do. Excuse me.”

Rhea,” My name carries on his voice as he moves away from me with caution. I will wait here till tonight. If you don’t meet me here by this evening. I’ll take my leave from here and return to my pack. After that I won’t return. You have plenty of hours to think and make a choice.”
