Chapter 18

Rhea

There’s a drawer I’ve dedicated to the letters

I stand before it, fiddling with the metal knob, as my fingers twitch. I haven’t looked at the other eight I received from Aron, so all ten have piled up together as one and I’m not ready to read whatever is in them. I shove another one inside, crinkling up the paper before shutting the drawer

I can’t read any of it, I can’t absorb anything more from it

I don’t want to know what he has written, what he plans on doing to me. How he’ll catch me off and snatch me off without any sort of warning, forcing me to mate him against my own will. I don’t want to know any of that and I don’t want to accept any of that

It’s been weeksnearly four now since he was here, in town, for the Alpha’s birthday

I curse myself for going there that day. I should’ve stayed home, called Ethel and told her I was sickshould’ve done something

But it’s too late now

Nothing is going to erase the events that happened or turn it all away

Part of me believes that Aron won’t actually come. He’d never be able to, but the other part knows that he means it

After I’ve hidden the letter I got this morning, I go outside and leave for the pack house. Walking the same path, I reach quick enough before my time starts. It’s eight in the morning, on a Friday. The training grounds are packed with wolves to the brim. Everyone is out there

Though, inside the house it’s quiet. I hear some of the kitchen staff humming. Ethel noting things down and someone setting the tables in the dining hall

I get on work fast. When I’m done with most of it, I head out for a bit, wanting to watch the warriors being trained

The training grounds are vast, they are spread out over the entire back region of the pack house which goes on for miles and miles. There are sections dedicated for everyone, from the deltas to the warriors. A field is marked off for them with red painted bars across the perimeter with no one, except those in training, permitted on it

From what I can see, the trainees are being taught combat in the wolf form. The beta, Lucas, tends to train most of the new trainees and there are other high ranking wolves that train them too. Sometimes, I’ve seen Samuel and Ezra here as well but today seems different. The two aren’t anywhere in sight and perhaps that is for the best

I don’t want to see them ever again

I see my little brother in the field, talking to someone. I don’t know who it is as I can’t seem the other person. I have been watching Luke get trained for the past week and half. He seems excited, and very eager to learn. He doesn’t quit, at anything

I wander a little inside the training grounds, further ahead, where I can get a better look at the people training

Most of the boys are in their wolf forms, fighting against each other. It’s a sight to see. I wonder how easy it for them to shift into their wolf forms while 1 here struggle with it so much. Maybe if I had some training I could master it

Oye!Someone snaps me from my thoughts and I glance back at Luke who calls me. What are you doing here?he questions in a voice that’s barely a whisper

Chapter 18

I was just watching”

I don’t want people knowing your my sister, so please get out and go somewhere else. He hisses

That’s your sister? The voice is familiartoo familiar

It’s the guy my brother had been talking and that guy is no other than Ezra himself. Fuck no. Just the sight of him want to throw up

My breaths start coming in faster

Shit. My heart hammers against my chest in a nervous tit. My palms turn damp, and then clammy, and a surge of dread explodes through my veins

For the moment, I’ve frozen

No, I don’t know her My brother says

Oh, yeah. I heard that. She’s your sister? Can’t believe you’ve a rant for a sister. I wince as his words strike at my already too fragile ego, snapping my selfconfidence in a instant

My brother appears so disappointed with this fact. I mean, who wouldn’t

I stare at him for a moment longer but he wouldn’t look at me. And for a short, sharp second, I see a glimpse of hurt flicker through his eyes. And then, just like that, it disappears and is replaced with that of an stone cold insistence

Yeah, well she’s nothing. Just a useless waste of space. Luke’s tone is dismissive, bordering on annoyed

Ezra looks at me like he’s going to skin me alive. What is she doing here then?”

Nothing. She’s just watching like the idiot she is,Lake gives me a hard glare which says that I need to leave this area ast quick as possible. Don’t know what’s her fucking obsession with it

You need to change your tone, Luke.” I snap at him

Just go wash the dishes or something. You and I both know that you’re good for nothing so stop with all the dreaming and. stop coming here again and again. I don’t want to see you.” Lake turns away from me and walks with Ezra, ignoring me completely and leaves

I stand there at the ground for a moment and look around

Wash the dishes

Really

My lips twist slightly as anger works its way up. As much as I want to say something to him. I know he’ll just tell it to my Dad and I would be in trouble again

So, I go ahead, toward the packhouse and inside it. The quiet murmuring greets me as I step into the hall that separates the living room and the hallway to the rooms, libraries and the kitchen. It still sits somewhat untouched to me. Beautiful portraits hanging on the wall with polished marble statues

I am just passing through the hallway, to the kitchen and the cleaning staff near there when suddenly a thought comes to my mind

I turn and walk back and enter the main hall where I take the stairs and head up, straight into the Alpha’s office
