Chapter Twenty Five
Gym class had always been my least favorite part of the school day, and today was no exception. As I stood off to the side of the field, watching Elijah and Isaiah strut around like they owned the place, I seriously considered sneaking out and hiding in the
library.
But, of course, the twins wouldn’t let me. As soon as they saw me ditching gym class they dragged me to the football field.
“Come on, carrot head,” Alex teased, draping an arm över my shoulder as I stood frozen by the bleachers.
Austin appeared on my other side, grinning. “Yeahi,
gotta come watch. It’s gonna be hilarious.”
“No, thanks,” I muttered, trying to shrug them off.
“I’ve
göt
better things to do.”
But they weren’t having it.
Before I could protest further, they each grabbed one of my arms and practically dragged me toward the field,
The football game was already underway when we arrived. Elijah and Isaiah were in the thick of it, their athleticism impossible to miss. Isaiah moved with an effortless grace, weaving through defenders like they weren’t even there, while Elijah raw power made him a force to be reckoned with.
I crossed my arms and leaned back against the bleachers, trying to look unimpressed.
“They’re so arrogant,” I muttered under my breath, loud enough for the twins to hear.
Austin tilted his head, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. Wait, does that include us too?”
I shot him a glare. “Obviously.”
Alex laughed, elbowing his brother. “Guess we’re all in the same boat, huh?”
As the game went on, it became clear that Elijah and Isaiah were trying to outdo each other. Every move they made was more dramatic than the last–perfect passes, impossible catches, and tackles that left their opponents dazed.
The crowd ate it up, cheering wildly every time one of them did something impressive.
I, on the other hand, rolled my eyes so hard it hurt.
“They really think they’re something, don’t they?” I muttered, earning a chuckle from Alex.
“Can you blame them?” he said, gesturing to the field. “They’re kind of unstoppable.”
I didn’t bother responding, focusing instead on willing the game to end as quickly as possible.
