Chapter 55
Rhea
“Marcella!” Aron shouts as he enters the living room downstairs.
Everything happens so abruptly. I’m barely inside that room when Aron finds me, and when he does, he’s beyond furious. He raises his voice to a frightening level, startling me before he forces me down the staircase to the floor downstairs and into the lounge.
He doesn’t let go of me either, not once. His hand only continues to remain firmly around my wrist, pulling me as I follow after him along the many halls, and when we finally come upon Marcella.
She arrives in the room fast.
“What is it?” she gasps, stumbling over her words the moment her
eyes
find me.
His hand releases mine. I take a step back, my heart drumming with fear.
“Did you not tell her about going up there?” He asks her. There’s a different voice now. One that makes me tinge with fear. “Did you not?” His eyes lock on Marcella, who suddenly appears pale.
She’s trembling, trying to find the right words, but she swallows tightly when they don’t come to her. “I did—”
I cut in, deflecting the blame from her. “It’s not her fault.”
Aron’s
here.
eyes turn on me, and his gaze is so heavy that I recoil. It’s frightening, the effect he has on me and everyone else
“Did I ask you?” He growls lowly, eyes turning black as his anger surges.
I freeze, my throat tightening as he takes a step toward me.
“Answer me.”
“I-” I choke up, scared. “No-”
He whips his head back, “Marcella, did you?”
“I did. I told her not to go there; I warned her.”
“Then what was she doing there?” He questions her.
There’s a moment of silence. She stammers, shaking slightly, her lower lip quivering. “I don’t know.”
“Nothing, nothing. I did nothing.” I interrupt once again, afraid for Marcella. Afraid for me, too. I don’t want any of this.
Aron’s gaze snaps back at me, sharper and colder. It’s not him. No, not the Aron I’ve come to know over the past few days. This is someone else, an Alpha. My wolf cowers within, sensing the danger.
“Is it so difficult for you to listen to someone? Or are you incapable of following any instruction?” He pins me down with his eyes. They are just two eyes. Black, cold. Dark, empty. But they have a hold over me.
He steps closer to me, and I instinctively back away.
“Do you not know the value of a command?”

Chapter 55
He comes closer, each stride falling heavily to the ground until I’m leaning against the wall, and he’s closer than ever, so close that I can count the strands of his lashes.
My heart races as I try to steady myself, but my legs feel weak. He’s right in front of me now, his hands clasped in fist on either side of me as he looms over me.
He stares me down, that cold, hardened expression plastered on his face as he lowers himself to my level, his eyes only coming down an inch away from mine. I tremble, my skin grows cold.
“I asked you a question.”
“I didn’t mean-”
“Didn’t mean to?”
I almost choke on my words, “I’m sorry. I just―”
“You were told not to go up there,” he asserts quietly. “You knew what would happen if you disobeyed. But you did it anyway, didn’t you?”
“I-” I shut my mouth, unable to let my words come.
The blood drains from my cheeks, my fingers go numb as he stalks in closer, no light entering his eyes.
“I told you. You’re in my territory now. That means you follow my rules, no questions, no hesitation,” He says to me, a growl rumbling inside of him. “Or do you miss being treated like nothing? You must, right? After all, you were so desperate to stay in that packhouse despite everything. Everything. You clung to them even when they couldn’t stand the sight of you.”
I force my eyes shut, stifling the lump that tears at my throat.
He leans in and lowers his voice, “You were so eager to stay with them, to grovel at their feet, hoping for even the smallest scrap of validation. And for what? So you could have their protection?”
I squeeze my eyes tight, tight, and tighter and then–I blink, his reflection blurry and ashy.
“Aron,” Someone interrupts from behind which makes him instantly take a step away from me and turn. “What is it?”
“Nothing of your concern.”
The man is the one from the car, the one who came with Aron to the packhouse. I try to recall his name, but I can’t.
He steps further inside the room and glances at me and then at Aron again, “Let’s go out. There are important things to discuss.”
Aron doesn’t move. Not at first. His eyes come to rest on mine for a minute before going somewhere else as if he were searching, looking inside me. Then he looks back, over his shoulder, at that other man who he appears to know well.
And in an instant, he glances back at me and asks, “Do you want to know what I did to get you?”
“Aron-” The other man speaks.
“I told your dear alpha of all the things I could possibly do to a runt. That it would be far better than to send her with me than letting her burn and die. I ensured it to Elias that I would make you suffer, and some part of him must have trusted me enough because he agreed. And so here you are—”
“Aron, come on.” The other man steps toward Aron, urging him.
But Aron ignores him, he doesn’t step away. His eyes are dead set on mine. And it takes a while before his expression changes. And then he looks at Marcella.

“Kael,” It’s the one word the man says that makes Aron turn to him. “Let’s go. Now
He goes without hesitation and without saying another one. He just goes.
