“Could you po wk Maria if he is awake? I tell Marro, who stands by the corner of the office
He nods and wifily leases Marris rarely wakes her up in time but it’s almost seven in the morning now the should be up. I to note invitation over the table and do her swined in the seat. I don’t understand why Rhea in’t here you
Doesn’t the understand what it means to be up early? Does she believe that ten in the morning is an early time? I thought i had made myself clear last night.
Marco returns only a while later with information that Marcella hasn’t seen Rhea yet and that she’s probably will asleep That takes me off my sext immediately.
“Make sure no one comes here. I’ll be back in a minute.” I tell Marco as I leave my office to head down into her room and force her awake.
Perhaps she didn’t take me seriously yesterday.
But that’s alright. Whatever I have planned for her will make things better, much better than they currently are. It would be great. I’m certain it will solve all of our problems, and she’ll be able to remain with me forever.
As I reach her room, I knock on her door out of courtesy, but there’s no response. I wait a few seconds for her to reply back and when she doesn’t, I open the door and step inside myself. To my surprise, her bed is made and she’s not in it.
A frown settles on my face.
I check the bathroom before I leave her room and head down the stairs to check with Marcella again. Maybe she went on a walk in the gardens. She does that, sometimes.
“Aron,” Kovas walks in from the front door. “Good, you’re here. His tone is a little urgent.
I halt on my steps. “What?”
“Ezra’s been spotted at the Greshire pack lands. Their border patrols tried to get him, but failed. We need to do something before he flees even further, He speaks quickly. “We send in our wolves?”
“Yes, Marco’s in my office, tell him, and he’ll arrange the men. Tell him to go with them to their territory and get him before he escapes. Make it quick”
Kovas nods and runs up the stairs, to my office while I head the other direction, to where Marcella usually is. My mother isn’t usually awake at this time of the day but I can sense her presence in the living room, with my sister, Layla.
They’ve planned to check out the local shops today, which is great, great for me and great for Rhea. They won’t be lingering around the manor all day long.
“Marcella,” I spot her preparing breakfast for what I can assume is going to be for my mother and my sister. “Did you see
Rhea?”

Chapter 74
“No, not yet. I had already told Marco I hadn’t seen her. She’s not awake-
“She’s not in her bed.” I cut her off.

She stops cooking and turns to me, “Maybe she’s taking a walk outside. I told her not to because she comes back all muddy, but-” She waves her ladle about in the air for a second and then continues.
“I’ll check.”
I slip out from the back of the kitchen and make my way across the courtyard before the path leads down into the grass fields and then, further outwards into the line of trees that surround the estate.
It’s cold, chilly, actually.
The skies are dark as if a storm is brewing nearby, heading our way. Rain isn’t uncommon in the winter months, but storms can get dangerous sometimes.
Where is she?
Usually, I can pick up her scent immediately when I’m in the open, but now that she’s a human. I can’t. Not anymore. I don’t smell her, nor do I see her anywhere. But she couldn’t have gone far without any of our knowledge.
The guards would have known, they would have alerted us if she had stepped past the gates.
While on my way back to the manor, I gave a call to the guards, asking them if they had seen her. They stated they hadn’t. Which only sent me into a spiral. Where would she go? Without telling me?
Fucking hell.
“Well, start looking for her. She must be somewhere outside. If you find her, call me.” I order them before disconnecting.
There’s this uneasy feeling settling inside my chest. I hate it.
I don’t know what the fuck it is.
“She’s not outside, I’ve looked,” I say to Marcella. She frowns as soon as I state that. She wipes her hands over her apron. “Can you check around the house for me? See if you can find her in any of the rooms? I’ll go up and see her room again.”
“Yes, of course.” She mutters before scurrying off in the opposite direction.
I run up the stairs, and go straight into her room.
Empty.
Nothing.
Again.
Frustration rises within me.
“I told Marco, he’s on his way-”
“Rhea is not here.” I cut Kovas off.
“What?” He pauses in his steps in the hallway outside her room, which is close to my office.
“She’s not anywhere. I can’t find her.”
“She’s probably taking a walk,”

“I already checked, she’s not outside,” I growl. “I told her to come to me in the morning so I would give her the Witherwood extract and she could rest for the remaining day.”
I’m running out of patience. Every moment spent not knowing where she is, kills me.
“Did you tell her that you’d give her that?”
“No, of course, I didn’t.”
Kovas nods. My phone rings, and I look at it. I hope it’s one of the guards telling me they found her, and it is one of the guards. I pick up the call quickly and press the phone against my ear.
“Did you find her?”
“No, sir, we’ve looked through the entire estate, but we can’t find her. She could have gone outside. Do you want us to search beyond the walls?”
No fucking shit.
“Yes, look outside.”
She wouldn’t leave, but what if she did?
I drop the call and search the rest of the rooms on the upper wing to see if she’s anywhere. She’s not in my room either. Nor in the lounge. No fucking where. I’m starting to get restless.
“I checked the west wing, and there was no sign of her,” Kovas tells me as we cross each other in the hallways.
I run my hand over my mouth, trying to ease out my mind. She couldn’t have left. I wouldn’t allow that. Not without informing me. This can’t be.
Fuck.
I head down the stairs again to get an update from Marcella. Maybe she downstairs, somewhere. In the library or the sunroom. Somewhere.
“Did you check?” I ask, almost desperately.
“Yes, I checked all the rooms. Nothing at all, Marcella looks nervous, I can tell that from her stance. Her brows are creased. Her hands are twitching. “I don’t think she’s here, Aron,”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m afraid she might have left. Some clothes of hers are missing in her closet.” She explains quickly,
“What the fuck—” I snap. “Left?!”
My jaw clenches. There’s anger building in my chest that threatens to explode anytime.
Marcella tilts her head a little to the door on the right, where the living room is. “I think there’s a reason.” Her voice is low, and she glances at the door as if to make sure no one can hear our conversation.
My mother and sister were there. She’s gesturing that they may have something to do with this. At that moment, Kovas‘ words ring in my words. The words he told before they came–to be sure.
“Mom,” I walk into the living room, a little rushed and almost panicked. I don’t want my mom to know, but she looks at me with concern, and perhaps I have been a little too obvious. “Did you tell Rhea something?”
She stands up, but doesn’t answer. I can hear the sound of her heartbeat race as she tries to form something-

I already know it.
“She’s gone, isn’t she?” I ask her.
Her face falters, and her hand spreads, “I merely suggested leaving for your own sake:
Fuck.
Fuck.
I can’t.
Yes, you can.
There’s no point anymore. She’s gone. But, I can get her back. I can find her. I can get her back. I know that. I’m sure of that, The room spins around me, everyone blurs in the background, and the sounds fall back. Everything turns red, the rage seizes me and controls me.
“She wouldn’t have gone that far, Kovas‘ voice makes it way into my ears. His hand comes on my back. “She’s probably somewhere around, still within the territory lines. We just need to search for her, Aron.” My vision is hazy. He speaks from somewhere. Somewhere in this room, that has gone red.
Not far.
He’s not wrong
“There’s no point going after her. She left because she wanted to leave. She’s a human. She told me what happened-
“Don’t tell me what to do I cut my mother off and say. “This is my decision to make. Mine.
“You’re an Alpha of a pack, you can’t be with a human.”
The red disappears, at least it does for a moment. I see my mother’s face as clear as ever.
I sigh and step closer, my voice low and menacing. I try to control it, as much as I can. My eyes bore into hers as she watches me carefully.
“This is my pack.” I begin slowly, my breath is hot, and I know she can feel it. “This is my home and I can do whatever I want to do, with whoever I want to do. You can’t come here and take control of anything. Not after what happened.”
“Under some circumstances, you might have to relinquish control.” She says.
when I “To who? You?” I snap. “Where were you when I came back here alone to my pack, to bury father? Where were you took the responsibility to avenge him? You didn’t come. You left his legacy behind and fled. I was here, alone, and I picked the pieces, alone. And I dealt with a lot, alone. This is my fucking territory, and you don’t control any of it.” She stays silent as if not knowing how to reply.
I step back, and it comes over me again. The red rage.
“It’s better if we leave now,” Kovas tells me from behind. “She could be headed anywhere.”
She has been gone for hours. I know that now. She is not here anymore. I know that, too. It will be hard to find her. Not for me. No one is out of my reach. I’ll find her, hunt her down like the wolf I am, and bring her back with me where she belongs.
“Let’s go,” Kovas says again, a little more urgent. “Aron.”
“You’re making a mistake, Aron. She’s just a human.” My mother is not going to give up so easily.

A human.
Right.
I get what I want, and if Rhea is what I want, then I get her too.

“There are no mistakes,” I look at my mother. I glance at Layla before coming back to her again. “I want you both gone by the time I return—”
“Kael,” Kovas interrupts my speech, taking hold of my arm. I shove his hands off. His eyes go wide as he whispers, “Rhea’s gone. You can deal with this later.”
“Kael?” My mother questions.
“Mrs. Alena, we need to get going-”
She steps forward, her expression turns to concern again. “What is this?”
“Let’s go.”
“No. You cannot possibly tell me that this-”
“We really need to leave. I’m so sorry.”
