Rhea
My eyes trail over the sight ahead of me and my steps slow down from the stairs. I try not to interrupt the moment between the two of them, the female member of the council and Aron, who stand close together. Instead, I just watch, trying to get a feel for the situation.
It is a little weird watching them.
My stomach begins to stir at the way she keeps smiling up at him.
I’ll see you later then. Selina whispers and takes a step back. A moment later, the door opens, and she disappears from the foyer.
I make it down to the rest of the stairs, keeping my gaze on Aron, who turns when he starts to hear me.
I give him a smile. “Well, that went well,” I say. “Did it not?”
For the most part, but they’ll be back again in a day or two to discuss further.”
“Are you going to give them your claim?” My hand reaches for the railing, trying to make sense of it all. There was too much going on during the meeting, and I wasn’t able to grasp it yet.
The werewolf council was known to be a force not many liked to deal with. A force not many were fond of

You don’t have to.
“I know.” He takes my hand in his and steps closer, to the edge of the stairs. “But sometimes it is best to give up some to retain some.” He squeezes my hand.
My gaze narrows on him as he stands below me. It’s the first time I see him from this perspective, from higher above him instead of beneath.
“Did you I pause to take a breath before asking him. “Did you sleep with her? Selina, the councilwoman?”

You did sleep with many others.”
He pulls my hand up to his mouth and presses a soft kiss against it. “I know, but they weren’t like you. You have me like no woman ever has and ever will

My lips press against his, softly, sweetly. And his hands find my waist.
“I like you a lot. I whisper, “but I can get jealous.”
“I know, and you can be. You’ve every right to be. You’re my mate.”
I nod before pressing another kiss against him, letting him pull my body to him, holding me closer, and feeling his hands on the small of my back,
Suddenly, the main door swings open once more and Aron pulls away, not too quickly or awkwardly; he breaks our kiss and looks back at the door. I do the same, hoping it’s not that woman, because that will make me frown at the interruption. But it

“You’re here early,” Aron tells him, his hand still on my waist. “The council just left.”
“I’m aware, I watched them leave before I came in. His face–there’s something about it. “I couldn’t wait any longer.
“What is it?”
He looks at me and then back at Aron. The lone wolf from last week? 1 was just able to confirm that he was a spy working for the Redhollow pack, and he was sent here to collect information, especially with the council coming into town.”
The wolf that killed Lydia. It wasn’t too long ago. I can still see her in front of my eyes and then disappearing into the forest. And then that scream….
“You’re certain” Aron’s question brings me back to the present and out of the memories of the past.
Tam, Kovas responds quickly. “I believe the alpha, William Harrison, wants to take a shot at our land and power.”
“Why would he? We’ve been in a treaty for years, Aron questions.
“Well, because you’ve been killing off rivaling packs in the north, maybe? I mean, it is no secret what’s happened in the last few months. He gestures around him, vaguely. “It is known that your name holds more weight than before. He might think we are at a weak state at the moment. And with the council being here.
“Right,” he pauses and takes in a deep, calming breath. His fingers dig deeper into the skin of my hip. “It leaves me no choice but to assure that he will soon attack, then And with that, we’ve to ready our wolves for another war.”
Not
This can’t be happening
“You can’t do that, Aron. Not right now. The council is going to be here for a week, and for as long as they are here, you cannot attack another pack. It will only show them that you’ve lost your mind by taking three of the eight Northern territories within montin Rovas’s voice is laced with worry, and it is like his words echo exactly what I’m thinking at the

This is terrible
I was there in that meeting. It was tense and full of underlying currents. Aron was lucky enough to escape their questions without too many repercussions, but with the next attack, it will surely not end the same way.
“He doesn’t have to attack.” I add quietly. My fingers begin to trace on his arm. I want to relax him.
Both of them turn to me.
“What Kovas is the one to voice it out.
“He could just talk. Negotiate with him. Send him a letter or call for his visit
“He sent a spy to my land with the intention of finding any weakness to attack and kill my wolves.” His hand moves to the railing. His knuckles are already going white. “No, that is not an option.”
I see him. I see his eyes, and I see the way they are turning a deeper, darker shade. He’s slipping.
