Rhea
I get only a few hours of sleep before I’m up and restless. The sun’s peeking in from the window and into my room, and I can hear the birds chirping outside, but there is nothing that makes me feel relaxed.
There are no words to describe what I’m going through.
It’s painful, and I feel like I’m being torn apart. Being away from Aron, after mating with him, is only bringing me misery. I know that I need to do this for a few days, but I want him. I can feel my soul aching and longing to be near him.
My heart wants him.
When I manage to get out of my room, it’s sometime past afternoon. I find Luke in the hallway, who has probably been filled in. He doesn’t say anything to me at all. He just gives me a look before disappearing into his room.
My dad is not home. He must’ve already gone to work, and I don’t know whether it’s a good or bad thing. Maybe good. Downstairs. I find my mother, who’s in the kitchen.
She gives me a small smile before handing me a mug of tea.
“Did you sleep well?” she asks me,
I give her a nod. “Just fine.”
“Do you want to have a bite of something?”
I shake my head. I’m not really hungry or in the mood. I sit down at the kitchen counter and look at her.
She turns off the stove and comes to sit next to me. We talk for a bit, but the entire time, my thoughts are elsewhere. On Aron. It’s been hours, and in a few more hours, it will be an entire day since I left. What would he do?
He won’t know I’m here. Not until someone tells

He won’t figure that out on his own
“Mom, can I ask for something?” I finally speak up after minutes of just sitting here.
“Yes. Anything you need,” she nods, waiting.
“A cell phone,” I say, I have to call Kovas again and ask him. I lost mine. Truth be told, I never had one there. I have a spare one. Let n

Let me get it from
my room. She stands up and hurries into her room while I stare at the counter
Being back here is certainly strange and unfamiliar. I can’t help but feel like I’m out of place. Like in intruding and don’t belong. My own family wanted me gone that night, and I was, for a while. Just gone. And there was no one here who tried to
look for me
Or even care for that matter.
My mom, she does, I believe so, but it’s different
“Here you go.”
She hands me the spare phone and I take it from her hand before stepping out of the house to make thell 1 —-

The weather outside is a little warm compared to when I was in Aron’s territory. It was chilly there. Here, it’s warm, and there is a breeze in the wind
“Kovas?” I quickly say when I call his mauber, and it gets connected. It takes three tries for it to connect.
Rhea His voice sounds different. Strained and hearse.
“What happened?” I can’t help the fear from showing in my voice.
He doesn’t reply. There’s a moment of pause where I wait for his words..
“Nothing. Did you leave as I asked you to?”
“Yes,” I take a look at the house in front of me. Don’t you know? Aren’t you there with Aron?” I furrow my

brows and ask
“It’s fine. It will take some time for him to be himself, and all this will look like a distant nightmare, I assure you.” There’s a certainty in his tone.
But I don’t believe it.
My hand goes against my forehead. “But how is Aron going to be when you’re not there, neither am I? There’s no way he can control his wolf and I shake my head, trying to even my breathing. “You told me you would keep him sane and in control, and you’re not even there. How’s he going to stay sane, Kovas?” My voice is a whisper as the last words fall from my lips.
“He will return to his old sell. He has done so before, too. We just need to give him some time.”
What if he doesn’t?”
“He will, Rhea. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. His voice is calm.
“But without you there, how is that possible?”
“It is. I’ve been
gone before when Kael was in control,”
That doesn’t reassure me either. I thought somehow Kovas would help him, but with him gone. I can’t even begin to imagine what would happen.
“Where are you?” Kovas asks me a moment after I don’t reply to him.

parents, I admit. I don’t want to hide this from him.
“Is it safe there? If anyone sees you, they will tell Aron of your presence there“.
1 stop him before he gets any more worried. “Don’t worry, it’s all fine. I won’t leave the house. I’m with my parents, and they won’t say anything to anyone.
“Alright. He breathes a sigh. “Stay safe then
We don’t talk for much longer after that. The call drops, and I head back inside the house with the spare phone in my hand. My mother awaits me over the couch. I join her there and put the phone on the side.
“Everything okay?” she asks out of concern.

I nod. “Yeah. for now. Just don’t tell anyone that I’m here. The words come out in a whisper.
“I won’t
From the corner of my eye, I see Luke coming down from the stairs. I press my lips shut tight, trying not to have a conversation with him right now. It’s best if I don’t. It will be easier.
But as soon as he steps down the last step, his gaze locks on mine, and his jaw is clenched.
“Well, it’s a shame that I’ve already told the Alpha that you’re here,” he suddenly speaks up, making my heart drop
My head whips to him, and I’m on my feet, my heart beating like a wild animal in my chest. “You did what?!”

grins. “I told him you’re here. Now why would I hide anything like this? You don’t belong here, and it’s time you go back to where you should be His eyes are full of resentment and hate for me. And it makes my skin crawl. “You shouldn’t have come here.”
“Luke!” My mother snaps at him before grabbing his arm and pulling him. You did not just do that.”
“I already did he looks at me again. “He’s going to be coming for you.
“Luke, you have lost your mind! She is your sister. How could you do that to your own sister?”
“You all should’ve done the same. Luke’s gaze doesn’t move off of me. “Why would you or Dad protect her? Who knows why she is running from him? Maybe she poisoned him too as she did with Alpha Elias!” he exclaims, his eyes full of anger.
My stomach twists at his words.
I can’t believe this.
