The Omega: Mated To The Four

Chapter Eight Five

0.94

The morning sun cast long shadows across the training grounds as we assembled, anticipation hanging heavy in the air. Eira stood before us, her expression inscrutable, but there was a glint in her eye that suggested today’s trial would be unlike any before

Today, she began, her voice cutting through the silence, you are tasked with retrieving an artifact from a heavily guarded chamber at the headquarters.”

Elijah exchanged a glance with Isaiah, both of them nodding subtly

Eira continued, You will be going up against Commander Lynne herself. She will be overseeing the chamber’s defenses and will act as the primary obstacle in your path.”

A murmur of surprise rippled through our group. Unlike Eira, who trained with calculated cruelty, Lynne was methodical, and strategica soldier through and through. Facing her would be no small feat

This trial, she continued, voice crisp and authoritative, is not about stealth. It is not about magic. She let the words settle before continuing, It is about precision.”

With a flick of her wrist, a shimmering blue illusion spread across the table, forming a detailed layout of an underground chamber. At its center, a pedestal stood, encased in shifting golden light

This, she said, pointing at the glowing object atop the pedestal, is your target. An artifact that, in a real scenario, could determine the outcome of a war.”

Isaiah folded his arms. And the catch?”

Eira smirked. It is heavily guarded.”

A pulse of magic and figures began appearing across the mapguards stationed at key points, magical tripwires woven like spider silk throughout the room. It was a fortress within a fortress

You have two hours to come up with a plan, she continued. If you are detected, you fail. If the artifact is removed incorrectly, you fail. If you take longer than the time allotted, you fail.”

She straightened. Impress me.”

We gathered around a makeshift table where a detailed blueprint of the headquarters was laid out

The chamber was located deep within a labyrinth in the structure, with multiple layers of security between us and the artifact

Austin traced a path on the map with his finger. The main entrance is out of the questiontoo many guards and surveillance.”

Alex nodded. Agreed. But there’s a ventilation system here,he pointed to a series of ducts, that could provide a covert entry point.”

Isaiah frowned. Even if we get in through the vents, we’ll still have to deal with Lynne. She’s not going to leave the artifact unguarded.”

An idea began to form in my mind, one that played to our strengths and exploited potential weaknesses in the defense

We need a distraction,I said, looking up to meet their eyes. Something that will draw Lynne and the guards away from the chamber, even if only for a few minutes.”

Elijah raised an eyebrow. What do you have in mind?”

I leaned over the blueprint, pointing to a storage area adjacent to the main security hub. If we can create a disturbance here- maybe trigger a false alarm or cause a minor explosionit could force Lynne to investigate, leaving the artifact vulnerable.”

Alex grinned. I like where this is going. I can rig a timed incendiary device to go off in the storage room. Nothing too destructive, but enough to get their attention.”

Isaiah nodded. While they’re occupied, Stormi can slip into the chamber and grab the artifact.”

Austin looked concerned. But what if Lynne doesn’t take the bait? Or if she leaves someone behind to guard the artifact?”

Alex let out a low whistle. Damn, Stormi. Austin’s right That’s risky”

Risky,I admitted, but effective. If I can convince them there’s an internal breach, the protocol will force them to unlock the main console. That’s my chance to get in.”

Elijah leaned forward, studying the layout. And what about us?”

You’re the distraction,I said simply. Make just enough noise to cause concern, but not enough to make them think they’re under full attack. We need them nervous, not panicked.”

Isaiah smirked. You’re devious.”

I grinned. You have no idea.”

With that, we finalized the details. We had one shot. No mistakes

Alright times’s up,Eira says and opens a portal. We look at each other one last time and each go in

The chamber was even more intimidating in person

Dimly lit, the walls pulsed with shifting runes, their golden glow casting eerie shadows across the stone floors. The artifact rested in the center, its protective field humming softly, while the guards patrolled in perfect rhythm

I pressed against the shadows near the entrance, watching as my mates took their positions

Then-

It began. We synchronized our watches and moved into position

Chapter Eight Five

As the appointed time approached, we were in place. Alex had set his device in the storage area, and we waited in the shadows, tension palpable

A muffled explosion echoed through the corridors, followed by the blare of alarms. Through our earpieces, we heard the chatter of guards responding to the disturbance

All units, report to sector 7G. Possible breach,a voice crackled

We watched as several guards hurried past our hiding spot, heading toward the source of the explosion

That’s our cue,I whispered

Isaiah’s shadows crept along the far wall, whispering unnatural sounds that sent a chill through the room

Alex followed with subtle bursts of flame along the edges, making the flickering lights falter just enough to raise alarm

One of the four guards that remained guarding the area stiffened. Did you feel that?”

Another hesitated. Magic interference?”

Elijah made his move nexttossing a small, enchanted stone into the corner. The moment it landed, it erupted with a low pulse of energy, like an impending magical surge

The effect was immediate

Check the perimeter!one of the guards ordered, and two moved toward the disturbance, leaving a single soldier behind to monitor the main console

Perfect

As they got closer Isaiah’s shadows swallowed them whole and just like that they disappeared. He transported them to another part of the building. The other remaining guy panicked seeing his friends disappear into thin air

He never saw Elijah coming

A quick tap to the back of his neck, and he slumped unconscious. And Elijah placed him gently onto the floor

I worked fast, pressing his security rune to the console. The room opened, revealing a long hallway

Elijah, Isaiah, and the twins moved to secure the perimeter, ensuring no one would interrupt my approach to the chamber

I slipped through the now lessguarded hallway, my senses heightened looking out for any traps. Reaching the chamber door, I pressed myself against the wall, listening intently

Hearing no movement inside, I cautiously entered, my eyes scanning for any sign of Lynne

The artifact rested on a pedestal in the center of the room, bathed in a soft, ethereal glow. It was a small, ornate box, intricately designed and emanating a faint hum of energy

I approached carefully, aware that such an obvious prize was likely protected by more than just physical barriers

I stepped forward-

And froze

A shift in the air

A whisper of movement

Then-

A blade at my throat

Well, well.A familiar voice said

I turned my head slightly, just enough to glimpse my attacker- Commander Lynne

Impressive plan, Stormi. But did you really think it would be that easy?”

Commander Lynne,I acknowledged, trying to keep my voice steady

She circled me slowly. Your distraction was clever, and it did draw away most of the guards. But you underestimated me and now I’ve caught so you and your little mates have failed this simple task.”

I swallowed hard, my mind racing for a way out

Lynne continued, However, I must commend your initiative. Few have managed to get this far.”

Damn it

My mind raced. I had seconds to act before she sounded the alarm

Think

Taking a deep breath, I decided to take a gamble. Then let me prove myself. One on one. If I can get past you and retrieve the artifact, we pass the trial.”

She raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. And if you fail?”

Then we accept the consequences.”

A slow smile spread across her face. Very well. Show me what you’ve got.”

Without warning, she lunged at me, her movements a blur. I barely had time to react, dodging to the side as her fist grazed my shoulder

I countered with a swift kick, which she deflected effortlessly. The room became a whirlwind of motion as we exchanged blows, each testing the other’s limits

Despite her age, Lynne was incredibly fast and strong, her experience evident in every move. But I had agility and determination on my side

As the fight wore on, I noticed a slight hesitation in her left side-a possible weakness

Feigning a strike to her right, I quickly shifted and aimed a powerful kick at her left flank. The move caught her off guard, and she stumbled, giving me the opening I needed

I darted past her, reaching for the artifact. My fingers closed around the cool metal, and I turned to face her. breathing

Lynne straightened a glint of pride in her eyes. Well done, Stormi. You’ve proven your worth.”

I nodded, relief washing over me

She approached, placing a hand on my shoulder. Remember, in real missions, unexpected variables are the norm. Always be prepared to adapt.”

Yes.”

As I rejoined my mates outside the chamber, their faces lit up with pride and relief

Got it?Austin asked, eyes wild

I grinned, despite the adrenaline still rushing through me. Of course.”

We did it,Elijah said, pulling me into a tight embrace

A portal opened and walked through finding ourselves standing in front of Eira and Commander Lynne who stood with her arms crossed

For a long moment, they both said nothing, Commander Lynne’s gaze sweeping over us

Then-

A slow, approving nod

Well done.”

Isaiah arched a brow. That’s it? No critique?”

Lynne smirked. Oh, plenty. But we’ll get to that. She turned to me. Your plan was solid. Your instincts were sharp.”

Then her expression darkened slightly

But you underestimated the unexpected.Eira finished

I exhaled. Yeah. I got lucky.”

She nodded. Next time, don’t rely on luck.”

I swallowed hard

Because next time, there wouldn’t be a second chance
