Chapter Eighty Six
The moment we stepped into the cafeteria, I knew something was wrong. The air was thick with unease, tension crackling like a storm about to break. Conversations were hushed, and witches huddled in small groups, their expressions grim. The usual morning routine–laughter, the clatter of trays, the scent of warm food–was overshadowed by something far more ominous.
I glanced at my mates, unease coiling in my gut. “Something’s wrong today doesn’t feel right.”
Elijah stood at my side, his dark eyes scanning the room like a predator searching for a threat. “You feel it too?”
Austin crossed his arms, his usually relaxed posture stiff. “The energy’s off. Like the whole damn castle is holding its breath.”
Isaiah, ever perceptive, narrowed his eyes. “Fear,” he murmured. “Everyone’s afraid of something.”
I didn’t have an answer, but I didn’t like the way my wolf stirred uneasily inside me. Something was coming–we all felt it.
We didn’t waste time finishing breakfast.
“Eira will know,” I said, already turning toward the door. The others followed without question. After exchanging silent nods, we left the cafeteria and headed straight for the training grounds where we knew Eira would be. If anyone had answers, it was her.
We strøde through the castle corridors, moving with urgency. The deeper we went, the stronger the tension became, as if the very walls were bracing for impact.
The moment we arrived, I spotted her standing near the edge of the training grounds, her posture rigid, her usually sharp eyes clouded with worry. That wasn’t like her. Eira was always composed, always in control. But today… today she looked unsettled. She didn’t turn when we approached, but I knew she heard us.
“Eira,” I called my voice firm but laced with unease. “What’s going on?”
She exhaled slowly and finally turned to face me. Her eyes–sharp and knowing–were filled with something I had never seen before. Worry.
“The Lunar Eclipse is coming,” she said.
The world around me seemed to slow.
“The eclipse?” Elijah echoed, his jaw tightening.
Eira nodded, her gaze sweeping over each of us. “It happens once every century. But this time, it’s different. This time, the Children of the Eclipse are ready.”
A shiver ran down my spine.
“How ready?” Austin asked, his voice tense.
Eira’s expression darkened. “They will be at their strongest during the eclipse. It will weaken the moon’s power, and in doing so, it
will weaken all of us.”
I inhaled sharply, my wolf stirring in protest.
“But it’s more than that,” Eira continued. “The bindings that hold the Shadow Weaver will be at their most fragile during the eclipse. If the Children of the Eclipse succeed, they could set it free,
The blood drained from my face.
Chapter Eighty Six
The Shadow Weaver. I could still hear its distinctive laughter in my ears. The ancient force of darkness was sealed away long ago by the moon goddess If it was released…
“So you’re saying… they’ll try to release it on that day?” Alex asked.
“Yes,” she confirmed. “The night your family was nearly wiped out… it happened during an eclipse. It was the only reason they were strong enough to attack.”
“So what are we going to do?” I asked, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me.
Eira hesitated, and that hesitation made my stomach churn.
“The only way to stop them is to find the Keystone before they do.”
1 frowned. “The Lunar Keystone?”
“Yes.” Eira studied me carefully. “You know that it protects against the Umbrakins during the full moon. But what you don’t know is its true power.
Something about the way she said that sent a sharp sense of foreboding through me.
“What power?” I asked cautiously.
Eira took a slow breath. If you unlock the Keystone’s full potential, it won’t just protect against the Children of the Eclipse. It will eradicate them. Every single one of them.”
Silence.
I felt my mates stiffen around me.
“Eradicate them?” Isaiah asked. His silver eyes flickered with something unreadable.
“Yes,” Eira confirmed. “And not just them. If used correctly, the Keystone will be strong enough to banish the Shadow Weaver for good.”
A world without the Children of the Eclipse. Without the Umbrakins. Without the looming threat of darkness.
It was everything we had been fighting for.
But Eira’s face told me there was more.
“There’s a catch,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Eira held my gaze, her own filled with something heavy. “Unlocking the Keystone’s full potential may come at a great cost.”
The world seemed to narrow around me. “What cost?”
Eira hesitated, then finally spoke.
“It may break your core,
Stormi.”
The words hit me like a blow to the chest.
I barely heard Elijah inhale sharply beside me. “You mean-

“She could lose her wolf?” Austin finished his voice a mixture of disbelief and anger.
“Yes,” Eira admitted. “Or worse
Worse.
I knew what that meant.
Death.
The weight of those words settled over me, pressing against my ribs, making it hard to breathe.
My wolf, Sky, whimpered inside me, her presence flickering like a candle in the wind.
I had always known the Keystone was powerful, but I never imagined it could demand such a price.
“There has to be another way,” Alex said, his hands clenched into fists.
“There isn’t,” Eira said, her tone softer now. “The Keystone is the only thing strong enough to stop them. But unlocking it fully…” She trailed off, her expression grim.
I swallowed hard.
Could I do this? Could I’sacrifice a part of myself–maybe even my life–to ensure a future free of darkness? Free of the shadow weaver? Free of those that took Maria from me? A world without the Shadow Weaver would be a perfect world.
But a world without my wolf… without Sky…
Losing my wolf meant losing my bond with my mates. I felt my mates watching me, waiting for my response. But I didn’t know what to say. I could lose my wolf or worse die. I was scared more afraid than ever and the confidence I had been building all this time flickered like a dying bonfire.
