Eliza stood stone–faced, her expression cold as ice as she stared into the cage where Sophie was on the verge of being bittent to death by the venomous spider.
“That’s enough. Come back.” Eliza said calmly.
The spider immediately retracted its fangs and scurried off Sophie’s body, crawling obediently back to Eliza’s side. She reached out and gently tapped it with her finger. “Go build your nest. I won’t be needing you for now.”
This spider was one of several poisonous creatures Gilbert had sent her–not just this one, but many others. After being fed with spiritual water, they had all submitted to her and made their homes inside her pocket farm, just like Simba, the venomous centipede.
“My patience is limited, she said flatly. “If you don’t want to die choking on your own blood, you’d better hand over my mother’s body”
Sophie trembled as she crawled up from the floor of the cage. Her face was contorted with pain and terror–but beneath it, a deep, burning hatred for Eliza simmered in her eyes.
Suddenly, she laughed twice, then gritted her teeth and mocked Eliza in a vicious snarl. “My patience is limited too. So tell me–what if I never go back? Do you think my people might destroy your mother’s corpse instead? You know, like dismember it… grind the bones to ash?”

The entire second floor was filled with poisons.

The next morning, Eliza emerged with dark circles under her eyes and a sour expression. She hadn’t slept all night.

“Well, that’s something Mary muttered in relief. “But your face–did you sleep at all last night?”

How could she, after discovering that Sophie had stolen her mother’s body?

She needed to go to the Stonor family–go to the ancestral tombs herself and see if her mother’s grave had truly been desecrated.
