Chapter 103
Rhea
The wolves brawl at each other, One’s black while the other’s grey. They circle each other, snarling and growling, their claws out and their teeth showing, baring at each other.
I’m unable to tear my gaze
them.
When Kael leaps at the grey wolf, they clash, and there’s more blood that is spilled onto the ground. The woman standing by the tree continues chanting something under her breath, her words inaudible to me. But whatever she’s doing, Kael doesn’t like it.
He keeps snapping and growling at Kovas, and when he manages to get the upper hand on him, he doesn’t stop. His claws dig deep, drawing blood, and there’s no remorse in him, not at all.
Kovas whimpers and cries and tries to move away from him, but it’s hard, because Kael doesn’t stop. His eyes flicker from him to me and there’s something else that’s coming to the surface.
Aron.
“Fiat homo potens, et virtute ejus, lupus languescat et genulleciat” She says something, something I don’t understand at all.
Her hand reaches the ground and she touches it before her head snaps up and her gaze comes to rest on mine. She’s old, older than I thought. Her hands are pale and wrinkled, and her face has lines that show her age. Her eyes are grey in color, and her hair, white and long, falls to her waist. She looks at me, and I take a step back.
She’s powerful.
“Aron, I call out. My voice is quiet, but it’s loud enough that his head tilts up from Kovas, and his gaze is fixed on mine.
He moves instantly from Kovas, leaving him as is, before coming to me. My chest rises and drops, I can hear the beat of my own heart, feel it pounding.
The woman goes quiet. She doesn’t say anything at all. In the silence, I only hear the sound of my own breathing and the groaning of Kovas’s wolf. My feet remain on the ground, and my legs are unable to move an inch.
The black wolf shifts, and his form morphs into that of a human. I don’t have to see him to know that it’s Aron. It is.
He falters onto the ground just as he finishes shifting.
I quickly go by his side and wrap my arms around him. I hold him and touch him, my hands running down his back.
“Rhea,” he breathes, looking down at me.
“Aron,”
“Fuck, that’s all he says. Then his eyes fall on Kovas. “Fuck!”
I nod my head in quiet agreement and swallow down the lump in my throat. “We’ve got to take him to the healer,” I whisper against his skin. “Can you do it? I can’t
“Yeah.” He quickly cuts me off before getting to his feet. There’s a bit of dizziness in his steps, and I have to hold him and support him. He doesn’t let me and instead moves toward Kovas.
The grey wolf is bleeding but not dead, and I’m glad that it’s not the latter.

Chapter 103
He takes Novas in his arms, and the wolf is heavy and limp. There’s no strength in him as he leans onto his body, his weight resting on him.
When Aron gets back up, he looks at the woman who has been silently watching us for some time. She hasn’t said anything. but there’s something in her expression, a certain knowing look.
Aty throat only grows tighter when Aron looks at me. I have to tell the truth to him. There’s no way around it.
“She’s a witch”
A witch” Aron questions, the confusion clear in his eyes. He knows that she’s a witch, but he’s trying to comprehend everything
A witch, I confirm. “She’s done something to Kael. He won’t–he shouldn’t be coming out anytime soon. Kovas found her after you banished him
I’m sure he knows what his wolf has done, as there is a quick flicker of recognition in his eyes. But there’s no anger or rage. There’s nothing. He’s quiet and still.
Tve made sure of that,” she says, stepping forward, away from the tree. “But this spell only has an effect on him for a certain amount of time. He’ll be weak, not completely gone. He’s a part of you, and he’ll always be.”
Aron is quiet for a few moments, and then he nods.
“Can you heal him?” he asks her directly.
The witch glances at the grey wolf. “I can.”
“Do it.”
Aron brings Kovas to her, and he lays the wolf down. The witch places her hands on top of him, and she starts whispering again, the same way she did earlier. It’s oddly cold when she starts. And a few seconds later, there’s no blood.
None.
The wounds have disappeared.
The grey wolf begins stirring to consciousness and then he opens his eyes.
“He needs rest,” the witch says, and then she steps away before glancing at me. “Go back to your homes and be careful. There’s danger approaching your way. Both of you.”
“What kind of danger?” Aron questions, taking a step closer.
She shakes her head. “Not from me. From the ones that you’ve killed. You’ll have to pay for your wolf’s crimes. Be aware and be cautious, Alpha of the Blackfang. What’s hidden shall be brought to the surface soon.” Her voice fades, and she walks back
into the trees.
She leaves as suddenly as she appears. Her steps fade away in the dark, her form disappearing between the trees. A shiver runs through me at her last words, and I wrap my arms around myself, trying to hold myself together. I look down at my own form. I’m dirty and naked, and there’s nothing that I can do about it right now,
I glance up at Aron, who is staring into the trees, his brows furrowed. There’s confusion in him and doubt.
He turns to look at me and wraps his arm around my shoulders. “Can you
shift?”
I nod. I can try.

Chapter 103
It’s a long way back home, and he knows that too.
