Chapter Ninety Five–1
The night had been peaceful, or at least as peaceful as it could be after everything that had happened. I lay on my mattress, listening to the steady breathing of my mates who had gathered in my room for the night. The warmth of their presence was comforting, though sleep remained elusive. Thoughts of the riddle, our mission, and the weight of what was to come played over and over in my mind.
But peace was fleeting.
A frantic knock at the door shattered the stillness.
1 bolted upright, my wolf instantly alert. The knock wasn’t just urgent–it was desperate.
Around me, the others stirred. Elijah was the first to move, throwing the covers off as he reached for his sword, always prepared for a fight. Austin, Isaiah, and Alex followed, their instincts sharpened by years of survival. My heart pounded as she hurried to the door and yanked it open.

Rowena stood there, her normally composed face pale with distress. Beside her, Mother stood in her ever–present scarlet veil, not a strand of hair or inch of skin visible beneath it. I had long since stopped questioning the oddity of the veil, but at this moment, strange thought crossed my mind–did she even sleep with it on?
That was quickly overshadowed by the sheer urgency in Rowena’s expression.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” Elijah demanded, his voice sharp.
Rowena hesitated, but it was Mother who spoke, her voice calm yet laced with an undertone of severity. “Your pack is under attack.”
For a moment, time seemed to stop.
I felt the words settle like lead in my chest.
“Our pack?” Austin asked as if needing clarification.
“Yes,” Mother confirmed. “They are under siege by a pack of Umbrakins.”
Elijah’s reaction was instant. “We have to leave. Now.”
Mother nodded and stepped forward, raising her hands. Magic pulsed around her, the air warping as a swirling vortex of deep purple and silver light. Alex and Austin rushed out with everyone’s luggage.

I inhaled sharply. I knew what was coming. I braced myself as I stepped into the portal, and just as expected, the nauseating sensation of being pulled through space hit me like a punch to the gut.
The moment we landed on the other side, I staggered and doubled over, vomiting onto the ground.
I wasn’t alone. Alex and Isaiah followed suit, groaning as they tried steady themselves.
But there was no time for recovery.
The smell of smoke and blood filled the air. Screams and howls echoed all around them.

Isaiah disappeared into the shadows, his form shifting as
he went to gather survivors.
I turned
to the
battlefield. I felt the

before breathing its last.
The children stared at me in wide–eyed terror.
“You’re safe,” I assured them, my voice carrying through the mind–link. “Go to the tunnels. Isaiah

I turned back to the battlefield, my breath heavy. They were holding their own, but the attack wasn’t slowing. If Umbrakins were arriving.

“Stormi!”
I turned just as Rowena appeared, her face grim.
“They’re not after the pack,” she said urgently. “They’re after you.”
I froze.
The realization sent a chill through me.
“They know about the Keystone,” Rowena continued. “They’re trying to weaken you before the journey even begins.”
It made sense. Too much sense.
If I died here, the mission would never happen. But the shadow weaver couldn’t reach me in the uncharted realm.
I clenched her jaw. I wouldn’t let that happen.
Not tonight. Not ever.
“Then let’s show them they made a mistake,” I growled.
Rowena nodded, my magic crackling around me.
I turned to my mates, my gaze sharp.

They moved as one.
Austin sent a wave of icy wind so strong it knocked several Umbrakins off their feet. Elijah’s sword struck true, severing the head of another. Isaiah’s shadows wrapped around the enemies, crushing them into the ground.
I let the moon’s light consume me.
A radiant glow burst from me, washing over the battlefield like a tidal wave.

The battle was over.
