CHAPTER 145: The Widow’s Revenge
RHEA
Pain. Darkness. The taste of blood in my mouth.
I struggle to open my eyes, everything feels like a blur.
The last thing I remember was seeing the knife poking out of my chest before I blacked out. The wound is still bleeding, the pain still stabs into me, but I can breathe. I’m still alive.
My fingers reach the edge of the knife. It’s made out of something else. Not metal.
Silver. It’s a silver knife, the blade still inside me.
A loud scream erupts into the silence of wherever I’m in as I pull the knife out. My cheeks press against the cold floor, and tears stream down my face. I can feel the wound beginning to slowly close, but the pain is still unbearable.
Another shriek escapes my lips as I twist my arm to feel the wound on my back.
“Finally awake,” A woman speaks up.
My head snaps up, finding her. Catelyn. The same woman who was meant to be killed. She was supposed to be dead.
“I was beginning to think I’d struck too deep.” She lowers before grabbing the knife off the ground and wiping her palm over the blade.
“No,” It’s the only sound that comes out of me when I see her again. “You’re supposed to be dead.”
“I am, aren’t I?”
The way she stands tall, looming over me with the knife, the way she smiles down at me, makes my blood run cold. “You’re not dead,” I say, voice hoarse. My gaze goes from her face to the surroundings. “Where am I?”
I try to crawl over the ground, to sit up, but I can barely move an inch without feeling the terrible ache that still throbs in my back.
“Where no one can find you.” She bends her knees and sits on her feet right next to me. “Not that anyone would look. The great Luna has fallen so far. I came to your little ceremony. You must’ve crossed paths with me if you can even remember.” I suppress the groan that nearly leaves my lips and twist my neck to look at her again.
The ceremony.
She was there. I did see her. I thought it was something–my mind playing tricks on me. I didn’t believe that she was actually alive. That she survived Aron’s wrath.
1 was wrong.
“How did you-”
“How am I alive?” She turns the knife in her hand to herself before placing her finger over the pointy end of it, which is still covered in my blood. “Well, aren’t you curious?” She smirks.
His fingers linger on the bloody blade a second too long, like she’s feeding off it.
“I do enjoy a slow death,” she says again, quieter this time. Her smirk fades into something colder. Deader. “You thought I was dead. And well, those wolves did come after me after your beast of a mate murdered Elias. I was hurt, injured, broken bones, everything else.” Her face lowers and inches away from mine, “But you see, Rhea. There are so many ways to cheat death.”
My stomach twists.
I try again to push, just enough to turn, but my arms tremble and fold beneath me like wet paper. My body isn’t listening. “You did something to me,” I choke out. “The blade…”
“Smart girl,” she murmurs, tapping the flat of the knife against my cheek. “Silver alone wouldn’t be enough. You needed something custom.”
“What did you use?”
She shrugs, almost wickedly. “A little of this, a little of that. Wolf’s bane. Some roots. A few drops of my blood. I had to gut
a witch for this recipe. But don’t worry…” she leans in barely inches from my ear, “I made her scream.”
Her hand wraps over my throat, pressing me b. Successfully unlocked!
“And when I was finished, I used the blade to carve her eyes out.”
“You’re sick,” I grit.
“No, no. I’m not sick. You are. You killed my mate.”

I laugh at it, “Oh, you didn’t even care about him.”
“I’m talking about Ezra,” she snaps suddenly. “You murdered him. You destroyed everything that was meant to be mine, I was going to be a fucking Luna. And now, what am I? A nobody.” Her hand tightens over my throat, and the next words are
hard to choke out.
“I didn’t kill him.” My fingers curl and claw at her skin.
“Oh, I know,” she sneers, “I know. Your mate did. But he isn’t here right now. I cannot get him to pay for what he took from me. But I will have to settle with you. Because everything happened after you wanted it to happen.”
She grabs my face, her thumb and fingers curling under my chin.
I try to push, just enough to get away, but her hand moves down and her nails dig into the wound at my back.
“You won’t get away with this!” I cry out.
She smiles wider, “I will. And when they find you, it will be too late. And do you think anyone will care? There’s no one left to save you. Aron’s too busy rotting away in the council’s prison after playing the Alpha of the fucking century. Your family doesn’t even care about you. They’ll forget about you eventually.” Her face comes closer, and her fingers tighten. “They always have.”
My eyes close shut as the pain becomes worse, stabbing me in every way.
“It won’t take too long,” she says again.
“Someone will come for me.” I choke out, trying to keep breathing.
She presses the silver blade against the side of my neck, “Who? Which one of your mates?” she chuckles while lowering herself closer. “They barely ever look at you unless you’re probably on your knees.”
I jerk, trying to slap her, grab her, something–but my muscles seize up before I can move. A hiss escapes through my teeth.
“Get off me!” I gasp.
I thrash against her hold. But she’s too strong. My vision is going dark, blurry and fading away with every passing moment. The blade is still pressed to my skin, threatening to slice open the flesh. My hands are shaking. I’m trembling, sweating.
“Let’s carve your face first, hmm?” Her smile is wide, almost maniacal. “Or maybe…I’ll just gut you right now.”
She doesn’t give me another moment and pushes the knife into my stomach. Another scream rips from my lips as the blood rushes to the wound and pours down my body. She laughs and gets off the floor, leaving the knife there.
“You know, maybe I’ll just wait. Watch you heal and then do it again. I think I’d rather enjoy watching the life leave your eyes.” She stands there, watching me wither in pain.
My hands go around the blade. I try again to pull it, but it only makes me want to throw up. The pain is excruciating.
“Enjoy the pain, little Luna,” Catelyn chuckles darkly before she leaves the room.
