CHAPTER 160 Reaching You

CHAPTER 160: Reaching You

RHEA

The thrill fades faster than I expected

One second I’m high on it, riding the rush of blood and justice and the next second, I’m staring at Catelyn’s body, her blood cooling under boots and it hits

The guilt hits me hard and it hits fast, almost as if it had been waiting

My hand goes around my throat where the wound had already healed and the blood’s dried up. It’s not the first time that happened, and it’s not going to be the last

What am I becoming

I don’t know

I can no longer be wounded, not in the same way I could be before

I drop the blade onto the floor. My legs start to tremble, and then give out. I stagger backwards, pressing against the wall to stay upright. The room stinks of blood and alcohol

I thought I’d feel stronger after this, that I would feel free. But I don’t

I feel hollow, and it’s a worse feeling than before. All these days leading up to this, I was exacting my revenge, I was feeling good and now, suddenly, I’m not

I’m not supposed to feel this way

I’m not supposed to feel, right

But I do

Fuck

I make a run out of the house before anyone finds me there, with her and the mess that I’ve created. My hands are still shaking when I reach the car

I shouldn’t have done that. It was too much of a risk. I should’ve thought of it before doing it

What was I thinking? What is wrong with me

Without wasting a moment more, I start driving, off the road, out of Ashvale and this entire territory. It gets even darker outside as I drive on the route back home

Back home. That’s where I should be, where I should remain. Not chasing ghosts. Not letting whatever this is inside me get stronger

Because it does. It gets stronger every time I kill. I can feel it. This thirst, this hunger, whatever this is, it’s getting bigger and stronger. And it’ll consume me if I let it

I can’t allow myself to become a threat

No.

You’re not allowed in here, the guard at the gates tell me. This isn’t the time. Visting hours are only early in the morning and you’ve to get approval from the council beforehand. He tells me

Please, I need to see him,I plead with him. Can’t you let me in?”

I’m sorry, I can’t.” He shakes his head

You don’t know understand-”

I’m sorry, miss. If you wish to see anyone, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning. I cannot let you in right now. It is against the protocol.”

But-”

Come back tomorrow morning. He says, his voice firm

Fine,” I answer before reversing out of the area

It’s dark up here, and I can barely see anything. There are a few lights further inside, past the gates, near the mountains that flicker every few seconds. I drive over the road and toward the back, where there’s another gate

Successfully unlocked

This time, I don’t go up to the guards. Instead, I park in the distance, shut off the engine and step outside

The two guards at the east gates chat away, laughing about something. I watch them till one of them goes into the guardhouse while the other one leans against the metal railing and lights a cigarette

They must have a lot of them at night

Even further past the gates, there must be more of them. There’s no way I can get inside the prison this way

I keep low, moving through the tall grass, careful not to make a sound. The guard smoking doesn’t even glance at my way. He’s too occupied

I circle wider, sticking to the shadows. There must be a way in. A weak spot in the perimeter

The fence is high and topped with barbed wire, and there’s a guardhouse I can see even further. Two guards man it. I could take them out, but there’s no way I could do it quietly. I’d be caught before I even made it inside

My phone buzzes in my pocket. I glance at it. Kovas

Shit

He’s probably worried about my whereabouts. I’ve been gone for a while now. It’s almost midnight. I turn the phone off and continue on

I’ve to think of something better. And that’s exactly what I do. Almost instantly

Clutching my throat, I run toward the gates, toward the gate and scream out

Please! Help!”

The guard turns, his hand immediately on his weapon, and I let out another loud scream

He looks at the blood that’s on my throat and neck and on my hands and clothes, and he immediately calls out to the other guard, who comes running

What happened?He asks me

PleaseI need help.I plead

He moves closer, Are you hurt?”

Yes, there were some men andand they attacked me,I lie, showing the blood on me. Please. I need help.”

Fuck,One of them says to the other. What do we do?”

We can take her to the infirmary.”

Are you sure?”

Look at her!The other one exclaims. We can’t leave her like this, out in the open. She’s bleeding. She’ll bleed out.”

Right. The other says as he turns to open the gate

One of them puts his arm around my waist and helps me walk through the gates and inside the prison. The other one goes ahead of us, leading us to the infirmary, wherever it is

You get back to the gates. I’ll take her in.The one in front says as we near a buildinga tower

The one next to me nods before leaving me

You’re gonna be fine. Just a little more. The second one puts his arms around me, helping me to my feet. We’ve got doctors and nurses. They’ll take care of you. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Can you tell me your name?”

I shake my head, I don’tI can’t remember.”

He almost reaches the building before he suddenly drops to the ground unconscious. I take my hand away from his throat, where I injected him with something that’d knock him out for a while

Just a while

I step away from him and take a look around the compound. There are a few smaller buildings and a couple of towers. The one that’s in the middle is the tallest. It’s the one where Aron has to be

The other guards are busy, but I see them. I see the flashlights on their hands and the weapons on their bodies as they patrol the area

I reach the tower after a few minutes. It’s a maze, but I manage to get inside, and then comes the hard part

The large staircase, the hundred rooms and cells that are on each floor, and the guards that patrol the halls

Shit

I start heading up, from one floor to another while being careful. There aren’t many scents here which makes me to believe there aren’t many prisoners either

Among all the scents, I catch his faint scent and follow the trail of it to one of the higher floors

Successfully unlocked

When I make it to that floor, there are two rooms, one on either side of the hall. There are no guards here. No one at all

I look at one of the doors and then the other one. He must be in one of them

I go for the left side, where the scent is the strongest. There’s no lock on the door that seperates me from the room

My chest rises and drops as I reach for the door knob. I should’ve been heading back home, back to the safety of the

house, but instead, I’m here. I shove the door open without a second thought

Inside, the room is dark and the air is cold. Stone walls and a small window

And him

Aron,I call his name as I take a step forward, toward the cell that he’s in

He looks up at me from where he’s sitting on the chair, and for a moment, I think I see disbelief in his eyes

Rhea,” He stands up and walks over to the bars that separates us. His eyes narrow when he sees me. What happened?”

My fingers curl around the metal bars as I get closer. I need your help,”
