CHAPTER 167 The Beast BreaTAY
CHAPTER 167: The Beast Breathes
ABON
“So what are you saying?”
“That maybe there’s some part of her within me, isn’t dead
Kovas stares i see the colour on his face slowly draining as he realises what that means. That’s not how it works, Crice the wolf dies
I felt something the night 1 felt hea de 1 out him. “And since then, I’ve been feeling it, like a constant thing in the back of my mind, telling me to do something Telling me that he’s there”
“Wouldn’t i sense your wolf if he were there? if he was still alive?
I shrug, “Probably not My voice goes quiet when I speak again. “Ether way, I can’t inggerit I can’t let him surface once more. It took me so long to control myself, Koves. He was so close to destroying everything My gaze shifts to the ground as the memory of everything that happened in the past resurf
“Even if it means that you might get everything back!
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve lived a long time as a wolf. And there’s no way to control a beast like him. I’m better off without him.” I pause and then look at Koves, who’s still standing across me with a concerned expression on his face. Don’t speak of this to anyone. Even Phea” 1 wern bin.
Kovas frowns but nods, “Alright
My hand races across my face as I tap my free fingers over the desk. The Council’s going to come any time. I need you to be prepared for it, Kovas. They’ll demand for me
“I know,”
“They’re going to turn the surrounding packs against you if you do not submit to them
“I know,”
“I’m only going to ask this once, I look up at him, eyes hard. “Are you, as an Alpha of this pack, able to take this spon yourself? I will assist you where I can, but my hands are tied I can’t fight, I can’t shift, but I can ensure that they come you’l be ready,”
“I am. For as long as you trust me.”
“I do”
He gives me a curt nod and then turns to walk out of the room when someone knocks. He opens the door for Rhea who stands on the other side of it with her arms crossed over her chest and an uncertan expression on her face.
I glance at her, my gaze trailing from her feet to her hair and her eyes. She looks beautiful as always in her usual attire, that s all soft, delicate.
“Am I interrupting?”
“No,” I say, looking at her wet hair that falls over her shoulder “Come in She hesitates, but then she walks in closing the door behind her before moving to the couch and sitting down.
Kovas is already gone.
“How are you feeling? She asks me
“Fine,” I reply. “Better than last night, I admit and lean back into my chair, resting my elbows on either side of it. Wher about you?”
“I feel good. Rested and fresh”
“You look it,” I say. She smiles a little at the comment and then leans forward to place her hands over mine
“I thought we could take a walk; she murmurs. Since it’s a nice morning and the weather is good. We can take the part in the forest. Or maybe the lake. Just anywhere with you?
My gaze softens, and I squeeze her fingers in mine I can’t”
It’s not like before. I’m not the wolf anymore, not the alpha. I don’t have the control i had over my wall. There’s no way I can be certain of my surroundings or what can happen to me
Or what might trigger something that is best left untouched and dead
“Why not?” Her voice lowers, and she searches my face for answers that I don’t want her to
“Phea, I whisper and shake my head. Tve some work to get done. Things to settle before the council sends her army
And you should stay indoors, away from prying eyes. No one needs to know that you’re alive, at least not right now” Her mouth opens to speak, but I interrupt her again. “For me, Rhea”

CHAPTER 167. The Beast Breathes
I can see that my words convince her, that they have a stronger pull on her.
The last time I saw her, she hated me, wanted to run far away from me, and she struggled with herself.
Now, it’s completely different.
When I see her eyes, I see the longing in them, like the one I had missed. But it’s not the same. Not exactly.
“Alright,” She murmurs and stands up, her hands still holding mine. She leans in and places a soft kiss on my jaw, her scent wrapping around me, it’s sweetness that I cannot get enough of.
Fuck
“Just don’t be long.” She adds and pulls away, walking out of the office with a soft sway in her hips that draws my eyes. And once the door is shut, I let out a sigh.
She makes everything hard.
Just the way I remember her doing.
For her sake, she needs to be closer to me, to avoid the madness that will come along.
But for my sake?
I need her as far away as possible.
Because if she stays near me too long, Kael won’t stay buried.
And the next time he surfaces…he might want her more than I do.
I can’t risk either. There has to be a middle ground somewhere, because if my wolf is alive, and if he surfaces, it’ll be the worst thing that could ever happen. Not to me, not to Rhea, but to the council.
Because he will destroy everything in sight. And Rhea? She’d be more than willing this time to let him. To watch him. She‘! love it, she’ll crave it.
