Gabriel slammed his sword onto the ground, his hand trembling with rage as he pointed at Benedict. “If you weren’t my son, I’d have ended you with my sword long ago!”

Benedict’s eyes burned with hatred, as if he were staring at a sworn enemy. “Go ahead, kill me! But as long as I’m alive, you won’t lay a finger on Eliza, not even a single strand of her hair!”

Gabriel’s veins bulged on his forehead, his neck flushed crimson as his fury consumed him. His chest heaved, his mind a whirlwind of anger he couldn’t contain.
Through gritted teeth, Gabriel spat, “You’re the heir of the Duke’s estate, my son! Why are you siding with that rebellious girl to defy me? What good is this for you? If I fall, do you think you can keep your title as Chief Censor? Keep dreaming!”
Benedict shot back, “You’re the one who’s lost it! Even a tiger spares its own cubs, but you? How many times have you gone after Eliza? Can you even count anymore?”
His voice was heavy with disappointment as he stared at Gabriel, his words cutting like ice. “You’re not a tiger. You’re a snake… a cold, venomous snake.”
His father was a venomous snake who wouldn’t even spare his own wife and daughter.
“Enough, Father. There’s nothing more to say.”
It was clear now. There was no point in talking anymore.
Benedict let out a long sigh.
In that moment, his shoulders sagged, and he looked utterly drained, as if the fight had taken everything out of him. He closed his eyes, ignoring everything around him.
“Since I came back with you today, I never planned to run. Do what you want. Kill me, torture me, I don’t care anymore.”
“You useless waste of space! You’re going to be the death of me!” Gabriel bellowed, his anger surging as he grabbed the sword he had just discarded.

Not long after Benedict was dragged off, Gabriel sat in his study, trying to rein in his temper. Suddenly, his eyes snapped open as the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from outside.
“Father, something terrible has happened!” Matthew burst into the room, his face pale with panic.
“You’re spouting nonsense! Who’s not doing well? I’m perfectly fine!” Gabriel snapped, his irritation boiling over.
“No, Father! It’s not you. It’s Anthony!” Matthew blurted out, his voice trembling. “A letter came from Woteria, and it says… it says Anthony… he’s…”
Gabriel’s patience wore thin as he glared at his son. “Stop stammering! What
happened? Speak clearly!”
Matthew’s face twisted in anguish before he finally forced the words out. “The letter says… Anthony is dead.”
Gabriel’s eyes narrowed, a sharp chill running down his spine.
“What did you just say?” he roared.
He sprang to his feet, but a sudden wave of dizziness struck, and his vision blurred as
he stumbled back.
