Gabriel sank back into his chair, clutching his throbbing head as he struggled to steady himself. The series of blows today had truly left him mentally and physically drained. Clenching his teeth, he weakly asked, “Where is the letter?”
“Here, Father. Please take a look!” Matthew said, quickly pulling the letter from his pocket and handing it over.
Gabriel took the letter but didn’t immediately read it. Instead, he held the paper under his nose and sniffed.
The scent was unmistakable. It wasn’t the usual Hasen City ink but the pine soot ink commonly used in Woteria.
He unfolded the letter, intending to examine the handwriting and confirm his suspicions. But the writing was a mess, more like chicken scratch than proper handwriting.
It was clear the writer had no formal education.
Even someone with basic schooling would leave some trace of proper technique in their handwriting.
But Gabriel found no such traces in the letter before him.
Matthew, initially puzzled, quickly caught on to what his father was searching for.
“Father, do you think Eliza wrote this?” he asked cautiously.
Gabriel slowly set the letter down, his gaze fixed on the childlike scrawl. “It’s not impossible,” he said, his voice cold.
In fact, to him, it seemed like the only possibility.
After all, his daughter was as ruthless as he was.
“If it were her, then the letter’s contents are likely false. Even if Eliza were bold, would she really dare to kill Anthony?” Matthew scoffed, his tone dripping with disdain. “Most likely, Anthony fell into her trap while searching for medicine. She’s probably using him to threaten us now.”
“Idiot! What do you know?” Gabriel barked, casting an impatient, scornful glance at Matthew. “If it is Eliza, then Anthony is likely already beyond recognition!”
He wanted Eliza dead.
But his daughter was just as bloodthirsty, wanting to kill them too.

Gabriel slapped the letter away, his face dark and stormy.
“Send someone to Woteria immediately! I want him found, dead or alive! And one more thing. No matter who the real killer is, I need ‘evidence‘ that Eliza was the one
who did it!”
Matthew froze, stunned.
Gabriel fixed him with a sharp gaze and commanded, “Listen carefully, Matthew. I need proof that Eliza killed Anthony. Do you understand?”
Shock spread across Matthew’s face as the meaning behind his father’s words sank in.
“Father, what are you trying to do?”
Framing Eliza for murder was no different from sentencing her to death.
Gabriel placed a firm hand on his shoulder. “You don’t need to understand my plans. Just remember, if you follow my orders, I’ll make sure Diana falls from grace, and she’ll be yours once more.”
Matthew’s breath caught. He turned to his father, his voice trembling, “Are you serious, Father?”
