“Wait, what?” Eliza didn’t have time to ask Rate what a “corpse puppet” was. She cut straight to the point. “Do you know who it ?”
Rafe shook his head. “It’s too far. I can’t sense my corpse puppet well from here. I’ll only know when I’m back in Hasen City.”
Eliza nodded. “Go back now then.”
After a moment’s thought, she handed Rafe a tiny spider, nearly translucent white. “This is a Crystal Spider. Within a hundred miles, you can contact me through it. Just tell it what you need, and it will relay your message to me.”
Hearing this, Rafe’s eyes lit up at the sight of the tiny Crystal Spider, Grinning, he took it from Eliza.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be back in a jiffy.” After putting away the spider, Rafe turned to Rudie and said, “Big guy, hold the fort here.”
He wasn’t worried about Eliza’s safety. After all, she had plenty of capable fighters around her.
And if anything happened at Saint Grace Nunnery, the abbess would surely come to her aid immediately.
Thus, he could focus on his own business with peace of mind.
After watching Rafe leave, Eliza stroked her chin thoughtfully.
‘Corpse puppet… so, Rafe has another trick up his sleeve besides his ability to disappear,‘ Eliza mused.
It all made sense now. Rafe had never feared being discovered outside the Duke’s estate, because he had left a double behind, locked away under house
arrest.
Corpse puppet. The name alone suggested it was crafted from a dead body.
Eliza recalled how determined Raisa had been to claim Sophie’s corpse that day.
That explained it. Raisa must have known about these corpse puppets. She probably took Sophie’s body to make one.
Eliza frowned, still completely in the dark about these so–called corpse puppets.
After all, Sophie had been resurrected. If her corpse was used to make a corpse puppet, that could trigger some abnormal changes.
Plus, Sophie’s body had already been torn apart, Raisa only managed to take the upper half.
‘Am I overthinking this?‘ Eliza wondered.
Even so, just to be safe, Eliza decided to send a letter to Raisa to ask her about it.
She might not get the honest truth, but sending the letter was a calculated move. Whatever Raisa’s reaction, Eliza was sure she would learn something from it.
While Eliza decided to test Raisa, something happened back at the Duke’s estate in Hasen City.
The corpse puppet Rafe had left in his room was now facing Sophie’s hostile interrogation. “So I hear you’re that bastard? The one that bitch Eliza brought back from god–knows–where?“/
After kicking the door open and strode in unceremoniously, Sophie fixed a haughty glare on the Rafe locked inside and issued a cold command, “Look up. Let me see your face!”
Facing the other person’s challenging questions, if the real Rafe were here, he would definitely have noticed something was off about this Sophie.
After all, the real Sophie had already met him, she wouldn’t possibly act like she didn’t know him at all.

With two imposters in the room, neither noticed anything amiss about the other.
The fake Rafe was merely a corpse puppet. It could fight, move, eat, and sleep, but speech was beyond its capability.
No matter what Sophie asked, it just sat there like a statue, utterly silent.
However, to Sophie, his silence came off as a provocation. She scowled and snapped, “I’m talking to you. Are you deaf?”
The fake Rafe still didn’t respond.
